🇧🇩 History of the creation of Bangladesh (in brief)
🕰️ 1. Background
In 1947, India was divided into two independent states — India and Pakistan.
Pakistan was formed with two geographically separated parts —
East Pakistan (present-day Bangladesh) and West Pakistan (present-day Pakistan).
But the West Pakistanis exerted influence in all important positions of the state, as a result of which the people of East Bengal continued to be deprived.

🗣️ 2. Language Movement (1948–1952)
In 1948, the Governor General of Pakistan, Muhammad Ali Jinnah, declared that,
"Urdu will be the only state language."
The Bengali Language Movement began in protest of this.
On February 21, 1952, Salam, Barkat, Rafiq, Jabbar and others were martyred in police firing in the Dhaka University area.
As a result, Bengali was recognized as the state language.
👉 This was the beginning of the national consciousness of Bangladesh.

⚖️ 3. Freedom Movement (1954–1970)
The people of East Pakistan continued to protest against economic and political discrimination.
In 1954, the United Front won the elections and put forward its “21-point demands”.
In 1966, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman announced the “Six-Point Programme”, which was the outline of Bangladesh’s independence.
In 1969, the people gave Sheikh Mujibur Rahman the title of “Bangabandhu” in the anti-Ayub uprising.

🗳️ 4. The 1970 elections and subsequent events
Although the Awami League won a majority in the 1970 general elections,
the West Pakistan government refused to hand over power.
As a result, anger and movement spread in East Bengal.
On 7 March 1971, at the Ramna Race Course Maidan, Bangabandhu said —
“This time’s struggle is our struggle for freedom, this time’s struggle is our struggle for independence.”

🔥 5. Liberation War (1971)
On the night of March 25, 1971, Pakistani troops carried out a massacre in Dhaka called "Operation Searchlight".
On March 26, 1971, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman declared independence.
The great Liberation War began.
After nine months of war, on December 16, 1971, Bangladesh was victorious.
Pakistani troops surrendered at the Racecourse Ground in Dhaka.
👉 On this day, the independent state of Bangladesh was born on the world map.
