Karnaphuli Tunnel
Location: Under the Karnaphuli River, Chattogram, Bangladesh.

Type: First underwater road tunnel in South Asia.

Length: The tunnel section is about 3.4 km, while the entire project (including approach roads) is around 9 km.

Lanes: 4-lane highway (two tubes).

Opened: Inaugurated on 28 October 2023

Purpose & Importance:

Reduces traffic congestion in Chattogram city.

Connects the city’s Patenga area with Anwara on the south side of the river.

Boosts communication with industrial zones and the deep-sea port.

Strengthens trade, industry, and tourism by linking Chattogram with Cox’s Bazar and beyond.
