VU, in general, aims at preparing its students nurturing their potentialities and proficiencies relating to the development of leadership, entrepreneurship and professionalism. It facilitates students’ involvement in higher research and implementation of the technological knowhow and ideas. The University is committed to work for the sustainable development and changes for the betterment of the so
ciety through a fruitful interaction with the government, business and social welfare organizations and with any international organizations as well. In this world of information, VU endeavors to accelerate students’ technological, intellectual, social and personal potentials providing them dynamic guidance and latest information about the new technologies of the world so that they can keep pace with the time and contribute to the advancement of the society. In an economically emerging country like Bangladesh, investment in higher education can lead to social returns of 10% by some estimate, which in turn means that these investments lead to increase in labor productivity, and short and long term growth at the same time. In the public Universities more than 20 students vie for a seat on an average. Moreover, they have to work in an atmosphere where party politics is strongly present, and financial constraint is another hard reality. Students, there, spend much of their energy in political activities rather than devoting themselves in study. The disruption in the schedule of classes during the academic year has given rise to new terms such as ‘Session Jam’ and ‘Session lag’. Students who are entering into a four year honors degree program in a public University have to spare five to six years at least. Rajshahi is called the ‘city of education’. Students of the entire northern region of the country come here for higher education targeting Rajshahi University, Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology, and Rajshahi Medical College. More than one lakh students apply for admission in Rajshahi University but only five thousand or so get admitted. The rest can hardly enter any other public University. Private Universities are badly needed in the city to cater for the demands in higher education of this domain. Naturally, keeping this inevitability in mind, the sponsors consider the initiative with prime importanceto open a University named Varendra University in Rajshahi in 2012. Since then VU has endeavored itself in providing quality education in this region. The higher demand for tertiary education has led to the emergence and quick development of Private Universities. Most private universities have few departments/ subjects having very high demand in the job market. They ignore the basic spirit of the university itself. A university must teach a wide variety of subjects and cultivate knowledge of as many kinds as possible. Moreover, many of them charge high tuition and other fees but provide inadequate financial support and scholarship for the poor and meritorious students. Varendra University, though very new, is dispensing quality education to the students at a comparatively affordable cost. In addition, it offers adequate scholarships and financial help to the students. However, the private Universities are contributing significantly to human resource development of the country. As the government alone cannot satisfy the demand of higher education, a public – private partnership can help the country meet the growing demand of higher education in Bangladesh, and Varendra University has been working keeping this spirit in view. OBJECTIVES:
The main objectives of Varendra University are:
To produce graduates of international standard by providing modern, updated and scientific instructions to students and also by engaging them in research and conferring Bachelors’, Masters, M. Phil and PhD degrees in different subjects taught at the University. Students will be equipped with the skills and knowledge necessary for playing a leading role in the national and international development sectors. To offer Diploma, Post Graduate Diploma, 4 Year-Bachelors’, 1 or 2 Year Masters and other professional or non professional degrees in any technical or non-technical disciplines. To authorize or to affiliate appropriate National or International organizations or bodies necessary for the above stated objectives. To arrange training and education on specialized and newly developed subjects locally and in foreign countries with national and/or international experts. To coordinate academic and/or non-academic research projects for the advancement of science and technology. To collaborate with academic research group and institutions providing research facilities both in home and abroad. To organize meetings, conferences, workshops, seminars and lectures or arrange and form study groups and training on subjects of national and international importance to update and contribute to knowledge and skills. To establish Educational Institutions or outer campus nationally and internationally for training and development subject to the approval of the concerned authority. To publish journals, research papers, books, monograph regarding company activities, research, product specifications and technical notes. To conduct research work in architecture, civil, mechanical, electrical, aeronautical, and chemical and any other engineering problems of industries, factories, aviation, and dockyards; The University will play a key role in making sure that students understand the advances in knowledge and can absorb and utilize their knowledge in their own work for the development of the country.

বরেন্দ্র বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের সমাজবিজ্ঞান বিভাগের “Graduation Ceremony, Farewell and Cultural Program Spring-2026” গত ২০ মে ২০২৬ তারিখ দুপুর ২টায় বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের সিনেট হলে অনুষ্ঠিত হয়। উক্ত অনুষ্ঠানে বিশেষ অতিথি হিসেবে উপস্থিত ছিলেন বরেন্দ্র বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের কলা ও সামাজিক বিজ্ঞান স্কুলের সম্মানিত ডিন প্রফেসর মোঃ শহীদুর রহমান, বিভাগের শিক্ষক-শিক্ষার্থী, স্নাতক সমাপনী ও বিদায়ী শিক্ষার্থীবৃন্দ। অনুষ্ঠানটি সভাপতিত্ব করেন সমাজবিজ্ঞান বিভাগের সম্মানিত কো-অর্ডিনেটর প্রফেসর ড. মুন্সী ইসরাইল হোসেন।
অনুষ্ঠানের সূচনায় অতিথিবৃন্দ ও উপস্থিত সকলকে স্বাগত জানানো হয়। পরে আলোচনা সভার মাধ্যমে অনুষ্ঠানের প্রথম পর্ব শুরু হয়। এ সময় বিভাগীয় কো-অর্ডিনেটর প্রফেসর ড. মুন্সী ইসরাইল হোসেন শিক্ষার্থীদের উদ্দেশ্যে স্বাগত বক্তব্য প্রদান করেন। পরবর্তীতে স্নাতক সমাপনী ও বিদায়ী শিক্ষার্থীদের উদ্দেশ্যে মানপত্র পাঠ করা হয় এবং বিভাগের পক্ষ থেকে তাদের হাতে সম্মাননা স্মারক তুলে দেওয়া হয়। বিদায়ী শিক্ষার্থীদের প্রতি শ্রদ্ধা, ভালোবাসা ও শুভকামনা জানিয়ে আয়োজিত এ পর্বটি ছিল অত্যন্ত আবেগঘন।
অনুষ্ঠানে বিদায়ী শিক্ষার্থীরা তাদের বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় জীবনের অভিজ্ঞতা, স্মৃতি ও অনুভূতির কথা তুলে ধরেন। তারা শিক্ষক ও সহপাঠীদের সঙ্গে কাটানো সময়ের স্মৃতিচারণ করেন এবং ভবিষ্যৎ জীবনের জন্য সবার কাছে দোয়া কামনা করেন। এ সময় শিক্ষার্থীদের উদ্দেশ্যে দিকনির্দেশনামূলক বক্তব্য প্রদান করেন সমাজবিজ্ঞান বিভাগের সহকারী অধ্যাপক মোঃ আরিফুল ইসলাম। তিনি শিক্ষার্থীদের ভবিষ্যৎ জীবনের সফলতা কামনা করেন এবং জ্ঞান, নৈতিকতা ও মানবিক মূল্যবোধ ধারণ করে দেশ ও সমাজের কল্যাণে কাজ করার আহ্বান জানান।
অনুষ্ঠানের দ্বিতীয় পর্বে বিদায়ী ও স্নাতক সমাপনী শিক্ষার্থীদের হাতে ক্রেস্ট প্রদান করা হয়। পরে মনোজ্ঞ সাংস্কৃতিক অনুষ্ঠানের মাধ্যমে আয়োজনের সমাপ্তি ঘটে।

Final Match and Closing Ceremony of English Department Premier League 2026 (Season-9) Held at Varendra University

The final match and closing ceremony of the inter-semester cricket tournament, “English Department Premier League 2026 (Season-9)” (EDPL 2026 Season-9) was successfully organized by the Department of English at Varendra University. The tournament was conducted with the participation of students from different batches and semesters of the department, creating a competitive and vibrant atmosphere throughout the event.
Following the completion of the tournament stages, the final match was played between two strong teams, “OLYMPIANS” and “TRIBUS-33.” After an exciting and competitive contest, “OLYMPIANS” emerged as the champions of the tournament, while “TRIBUS-33” secured the position of runners-up.
The prize-giving and closing ceremony was held after the final match. The event was attended by faculty members and students of the Department of English. During the ceremony, the guests highlighted the importance of such sporting events in fostering teamwork, leadership skills, and stronger relationships among students.
It is worth mentioning that English Language Club and Pixels Computer served as supporting partners of the tournament and contributed to the successful ex*****on of the event.
During the ceremony, honorary crests were presented to members of the executive committee in recognition of their contributions to the tournament. In addition, awards including “Man of the Final,” “Best Batter,” “Best Bowler,” and “Man of the Tournament” were presented to the players for their outstanding performances.
Finally, medals and trophies were awarded to the players of “OLYMPIANS,” the champions of EDPL 2026 (Season-9), and “TRIBUS-33,” the runners-up.
The event not only promoted sportsmanship among the students of the Department of English but also strengthened mutual bonding and created memorable experiences for all participants.

“রাষ্ট্রবিজ্ঞান বিভাগের ১৫তম ব্যাচের বিদায়ী অনুষ্ঠান ‘Grand Gala 15’ অনুষ্ঠিত”
বরেন্দ্র বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের রাষ্ট্রবিজ্ঞান বিভাগের ১৫তম ব্যাচের বিদায়ী অনুষ্ঠান ‘Grand Gala 15’ ১৯ ও ২০ মে, ২০২৬ তারিখে উৎসবমুখর পরিবেশে অনুষ্ঠিত হয়। দুই দিনব্যাপী এই আয়োজনের সূচনা হয় ১৯ মে এক প্রাণবন্ত র্যালির মাধ্যমে। র্যালিটি বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় প্রাঙ্গণ প্রদক্ষিণ করে খেলার মাঠ সংলগ্ন আমবাগানে গিয়ে শেষ হয়।
মূল পর্বটি অনুষ্ঠিত হয় বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের সিনেট হলে।অনুষ্ঠানে উপস্থিত ছিলেন স্কুল অব আর্টস অ্যান্ড সোশ্যাল সায়েন্সের ডিন প্রফেসর মো. শহীদুর রহমান, রাষ্ট্রবিজ্ঞান বিভাগের ভারপ্রাপ্ত বিভাগীয় প্রধান মো. আসফাক সালেহীন, বিভাগের শিক্ষকবৃন্দ এবং ১৫তম ব্যাচের বিদায়ী শিক্ষার্থীরা।
সেখানে বিদায়ী শিক্ষার্থীদের কয়েকজন তাদের চার বছরের বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় জীবনের স্মৃতি, অভিজ্ঞতা ও অনুভূতি তুলে ধরেন, যা আয়োজনটিকে আবেগঘন করে তোলে। তাদের বক্তব্যে বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় জীবনের আনন্দ, সংগ্রাম, বন্ধুত্ব ও শিক্ষাজীবনের নানা দিক প্রাণবন্তভাবে উঠে আসে।
অতিথিবৃন্দ শিক্ষার্থীদের উদ্দেশ্যে ভবিষ্যৎ জীবনের জন্য গুরুত্বপূর্ণ দিকনির্দেশনা প্রদান করেন। তারা ব্যক্তিগত, সামাজিক ও পেশাগত জীবনে সততা, দায়িত্ববোধ, অধ্যবসায় ও মানবিক মূল্যবোধ ধারণ করে এগিয়ে যাওয়ার আহ্বান জানান। অনুষ্ঠানে শিক্ষক ও শিক্ষার্থীদের আন্তরিক সম্পর্ক ও পারস্পরিক শ্রদ্ধাবোধ বিশেষভাবে পরিলক্ষিত হয়।
বিকেলে বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের আমবাগানে এক মনোমুগ্ধকর সাংস্কৃতিক অনুষ্ঠানের আয়োজন করা হয়। গান, নৃত্য ও বিভিন্ন পরিবেশনার মধ্য দিয়ে পুরো আয়োজনটি আরও প্রাণবন্ত হয়ে ওঠে। বিদায়ী শিক্ষার্থীদের উচ্ছ্বাস, আবেগ ও আনন্দঘন অংশগ্রহণ অনুষ্ঠানে বিশেষ মাত্রা যোগ করে।
এ আয়োজনের ধারাবাহিকতায় ২০ মে অনুষ্ঠিত হয় ‘Grand Gala 15’-এর গালা ডিনার। এতে বিভাগের শিক্ষকবৃন্দ ও শিক্ষার্থীরা এক আন্তরিক ও আনন্দঘন পরিবেশে মিলিত হন। গালা ডিনার পর্বে শিক্ষার্থীদের অংশগ্রহণ, সৌহার্দ্যপূর্ণ আড্ডা ও স্মৃতিচারণ পুরো আয়োজনকে আরও অর্থবহ ও স্মরণীয় করে তোলে।
সার্বিকভাবে, ‘Grand Gala 15’ ছিল কৃতজ্ঞতা, ভালোবাসা, আবেগ ও নতুন স্বপ্নে উজ্জীবিত একটি স্মরণীয় বিদায়ী আয়োজন, যা ১৫তম ব্যাচের শিক্ষার্থীদের বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় জীবনের সুন্দর সমাপ্তি এবং ভবিষ্যৎ জীবনের নতুন পথচলার প্রত্যয়কে প্রতিফলিত করেছে।

Department of English, VU Hosts Career Guidance Session: "Life After Graduation: Navigating Career Pathways"
The Department of English, Varendra University organized a career counselling seminar titled “Life after Graduation: Navigating Career Pathways” on 18 May 2026. Designed specifically for the outgoing students, the event aimed to equip soon-to-be graduates with the strategic insights needed to transition smoothly into the professional world.
The session was conducted by Md. Shoab Shahriar, Lecturer, Department of English, Varendra University & Nikhate Jannat Binte Zinnah, Assistant Professor, Department of English, Varendra University who provided valuable insights into various career pathways available after graduation.
Through a comprehensive presentation, Md. Shoab Shahriar guided students through the complexities of the modern job market, breaking it down into different pathways. He provided a candid look at the pros and cons of each sector and addressed the common dilemmas faced by fresh graduates. A major highlight of the session was the strategic advice regarding age and experience. For students aspiring to go abroad, the speaker provided some practical advice, including a fresh perspective on the global market.
Nikhate Jannat Binte Zinnah, in her speech, emphasized the importance of building a strong resume through gaining experience in research, social work, volunteering and leadership opportunities. She also introduced the audience to internship opportunities available for the students of the department at different institutions home and abroad. The event concluded with essential "Lessons from Life," where the esteemed speaker shared her own experience of working in a variety of sectors before starting her journey as an academic. Students were encouraged to adopt a mindset of continuous learning which would lead to their transition from volunteers into future leaders.
The event proved to be highly informative and impactful, equipping students with the knowledge and confidence to navigate their post-graduation journeys effectively. The Department of English of Varendra University remains committed to the holistic development of its students, ensuring they are not only academically proficient but also fully prepared to navigate the challenges and opportunities of life after graduation.

বাংলা সাহিত্য ও সংস্কৃতির দুই কিংবদন্তি ব্যক্তিত্ব বিশ্বকবি রবীন্দ্রনাথ ঠাকুর ও জাতীয় কবি কাজী নজরুল ইসলামের জীবন, সাহিত্য, সংগীত ও সাংস্কৃতিক অবদানকে স্বরণ ও উদযাপনের লক্ষ্যে বরেন্দ্র বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ে অনুষ্ঠিত হয়েছে বর্ণাঢ্য সাংস্কৃতিক অনুষ্ঠান “রবীন্দ্র-নজরুল জন্মজয়ন্তী”।
গত রবিবার, ১৮ মে ২০২৬ বিকেল ৩:৩০ মিনিটে বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের প্লাজা চত্বরে আয়োজিত এ অনুষ্ঠানে শিক্ষক, শিক্ষার্থী, কর্মকর্তা ও সাংস্কৃতিক কর্মীদের স্বতঃস্ফূর্ত অংশগ্রহণে মুখর হয়ে ওঠে পুরো ক্যাম্পাস।
“এক হাতে বাজে অগ্নিবীণা, কণ্ঠে গীতাঞ্জলি” প্রতিপাদ্যে আয়োজিত অনুষ্ঠানে রবীন্দ্র ও নজরুলের সাহিত্য, সংগীত ও সাংস্কৃতিক চেতনাকে ধারণ করে পরিবেশিত হয় নানা আয়োজন। অনুষ্ঠানে ছিল কবিতা আবৃত্তি, একক ও দলীয় সংগীত, নৃত্য পরিবেশনা এবং দুই মহাকবির সৃষ্টিকর্মভিত্তিক বিশেষ সাংস্কৃতিক পরিবেশনা।
বরেন্দ্র বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় সাংস্কৃতিক সংঘের আয়োজনে অনুষ্ঠিত এ অনুষ্ঠান প্রাণবন্ত পরিবেশ ও দর্শকদের উপস্থিতির মধ্য দিয়ে সম্পন্ন হয়।
