🚨 HEALTH AWARENESS: What is Hantavirus & Should You Be Worried? 🚨

You may have seen recent headlines about a rare Hantavirus cluster linked to an international cruise ship. Whenever a rare virus appears in the news, panic spreads fast — but facts matter more than fear. Here’s what you actually need to know 👇

🦠 WHAT IS HANTAVIRUS?
Hantaviruses are a group of viruses mainly carried by wild rodents such as mice and rats.

Humans usually become infected by:
⚠️ Breathing in airborne particles contaminated with:
• Rodent droppings
• Urine
• Saliva

This often happens while cleaning:
🏚️ Old sheds
🏕️ Cabins
🚪 Garages
📦 Storage spaces

🚢 WHAT ABOUT THE RECENT CRUISE SHIP OUTBREAK?
Health authorities including the WHO and CDC reported a small cluster involving the Andes strain of Hantavirus.

Unlike most Hantaviruses, the Andes virus can occasionally spread through prolonged close contact between people.

✅ Important:
• Cases were rapidly isolated
• Public health protocols were activated immediately
• The overall risk to the public remains EXTREMELY LOW

🤒 EARLY SYMPTOMS
Symptoms often resemble the flu at first:

🤒 Fever & chills
💪 Severe muscle aches (especially hips, thighs & back)
😵 Fatigue & dizziness
🤢 Nausea, vomiting & stomach pain

If severe, breathing problems can develop later.

🧼 HOW TO CLEAN RODENT DROPPINGS SAFELY
❌ NEVER:
• Sweep
• Vacuum
• Dry wipe rodent droppings

These actions can aerosolize viral particles and increase infection risk.

✅ SAFE CLEANING STEPS (CDC GUIDELINES)

1️⃣ VENTILATE FIRST
🪟 Open doors and windows
🚶 Leave the area for at least 30 minutes

2️⃣ WEAR PROTECTION
🧤 Use rubber, latex, vinyl, or nitrile gloves

For heavy infestations:
😷 Wear an N95 respirator
👓 Use eye protection

3️⃣ SATURATE — DON’T SWEEP
🧴 Spray droppings/nests thoroughly with disinfectant

CDC bleach mixture:
🧪 1.5 cups bleach + 1 gallon water

⏳ Let it soak for 5 minutes before touching anything.

4️⃣ WIPE & DISPOSE
🧻 Use damp paper towels to wipe materials
🗑️ Place waste directly into a plastic bag

Then:
🧽 Mop or disinfect surrounding surfaces

5️⃣ DOUBLE-BAG THE WASTE
🛍️ Seal the first bag
🛍️ Place it into a second bag and seal again

Dispose in a covered outdoor trash bin.

6️⃣ FINAL HAND CLEANING
🧼 Wash gloved hands first
🧤 Remove gloves safely
🫧 Wash bare hands thoroughly with soap and warm water

🏡 PREVENTION TIPS
✔️ Seal holes and cracks around your home
✔️ Store food properly
✔️ Keep garages and storage spaces clean
✔️ Reduce rodent nesting areas

📢 Knowledge prevents panic.
Share facts, not fear. Stay informed, stay clean, stay safe. 🧼💪

Mental health is one of the most important parts of human well-being.
🌻 In today’s world, mental health problems are increasing rapidly, especially among young people and students. Academic pressure, family expectations, social media, financial problems, loneliness, and lack of emotional support often create stress, anxiety, and depression. In countries like Bangladesh, mental health is still not discussed openly in many families and communities, which makes the situation more difficult.

🌻Many students suffer silently because they fear criticism, misunderstanding, or social stigma.

🌻Good mental health means being able to think clearly, manage emotions, handle stress, maintain relationships, and make healthy decisions.

💫A mentally healthy person can work productively, study effectively, and enjoy life with confidence and balance.

🎇🎇Therefore, promoting mental health is very important for individuals, families, schools, and society.
🎗️There are many ways to take care of mental health and promote emotional well-being.::

🪄First, maintaining a healthy lifestyle is essential. Students and young people should get enough sleep, eat nutritious food, exercise regularly, and avoid harmful habits such as smoking or drug use. Physical health and mental health are closely connected. Regular physical activity helps reduce stress and improves mood.

🪄Second, proper time management can reduce academic pressure. Students should create balanced study schedules and avoid excessive workload. Taking short breaks, spending time with friends and family, and participating in hobbies or creative activities can refresh the mind and reduce anxiety.

🪄Third, communication and emotional support are very important. Young people should feel comfortable sharing their thoughts and feelings with trusted family members, teachers, friends, or counselors. Parents and teachers should listen without judgment and create a supportive environment where students feel safe expressing themselves.

🪄Another important step is reducing the stigma around mental health in Bangladesh.

🎗️🎗️Many people still believe that mental illness is a weakness, which prevents individuals from seeking help. Schools, colleges, universities, and media should spread awareness about mental health through education programs, workshops, and campaigns. Counseling services should also be made more available and affordable for students.

➡️Technology and social media also have both positive and negative effects on mental health. Excessive use of social media can increase comparison, insecurity, loneliness, and stress.
➡️Therefore, young people should use technology wisely and spend more time in real-life social interaction and outdoor activities.
Poor mental health can have serious consequences. It may lead to depression, anxiety disorders, low self-esteem, poor academic performance, social isolation, substance abuse, and even self-harm or su***de in severe cases.
➡️Students with mental health problems often lose concentration, motivation, and confidence.
➡️Relationships with family and friends may also suffer. On a larger scale, poor mental health affects society by reducing productivity and increasing social and healthcare problems.

💫💫In conclusion, mental health is just as important as physical health. Taking care of mental well-being should become a priority for everyone, especially students and young people. In Bangladesh, greater awareness, open discussion, emotional support, and accessible mental health services are needed to build a healthier and more compassionate society.

💫 By supporting each other and promoting healthy habits, we can create a future where mental health is valued and protected.

Violence against doctors is violence against healthcare itself.

IMSEN Bangladesh strongly condemns the alarming incident of physical assault, intimidation, and harassment against 45th BCS Cadre ,Dr Nasir Uddin in Sariatpur district , Bangladesh.
Healthcare professionals dedicate their lives to saving others, often under immense pressure, limited resources, and challenging circumstances. No doctor should have to fear for their safety while serving patients.

A safe workplace is not a privilege — it is a fundamental right. We demand immediate and effective enforcement of laws to protect doctors, healthcare workers, and all medical staff from any form of violence within healthcare settings.

We call upon the concerned authorities to ensure:
• Strict legal action against perpetrators of violence against doctors
• Strong institutional security in hospitals and healthcare facilities
• National policies ensuring protection of healthcare professionals
• A culture of respect and trust between healthcare providers and the community

An attack on one doctor is an attack on the healthcare system we all rely on.

🚨 STOP GAMBLING WITH YOUR CHILD'S LIFE! 🚨
"Natural immunity is better" is a deadly lie. Waiting for your child to get infected to build immunity risks permanent disability or death. And let’s kill the biggest myth right now: Vaccines DO NOT cause autism. That is a completely debunked fabrication. Your child's immune system easily handles thousands of antigens daily—it can handle life-saving vaccines.
⚠️ URGENT 2026 ALERT: Measles is surging across 58 districts in Bangladesh! An emergency Nationwide MR Campaign is happening right now. EVERY child (6 to 59 months) needs a free extra MR dose IMMEDIATELY, regardless of their past vaccination history.
Don't wait for a tragedy. The Bangladesh EPI schedule is your ultimate shield:
👶 Infants (Birth–15 Mos): Strict timeline for BCG (TB), Polio, Pentavalent, PCV, and MR vaccines.
👧 Adolescent Girls (10–14 Yrs): HPV vaccine to completely prevent cervical cancer.
👩 Women (15–49 Yrs): 5-dose Td schedule to protect mothers and newborns from Tetanus.
🛑 ACTION REQUIRED: Find your child’s EPI card TODAY. If you missed a date, go to your nearest community clinic for a catch-up dose immediately.
Stop the excuses. Protect your community. Vaccinate on time! 💉🛡️

"Without vaccines, mankind wouldn't be as it is....."

In the last few days, we have discussed some diseases for which vaccines have been discovered and their damage can be reduced to a great extent. Today, we will discuss a disease for which a vaccine is still undiscovered and therefore its only outcome is... *"DEATH"*...

Episode:06: Nipah

∆ Introduction :
Nipah virus is a zoonotic virus belonging to the genus Henipavirus, prominently seen in this subcontinent. It is classified as a biosafety level-4 pathogen, meaning it poses an extreme risk of causing a life-threatening disease.

∆ History :
First cases of Nipah were reported in 1998, when it was transmitted from pigs to humans in Malaysia. Almost every year since then, there has been reports of at least one outbreak of Nipah virus in Bangladesh, India, Malaysia and Singapore.

∆ Transmission :
Nipah virus is usually found in bats, as bats are its natural reservoir hosts.
1. Contamination of food or drinks by bats
2. Direct contact of infected animals (bats, pigs, horses) with humans
3. Close contact between an infected human and a healthy human
In Bangladesh, transmission of Nipah virus is caused by ingestion of date palm sap and fruits contaminated by bats.

∆ Clinical Manifestations :
1. Sometimes asymptomatic
2. Fever and associated weaknesses – 1st symptom
3. Respiratory symptoms – Breathlessness, Frequent cough progressing to pneumonia
4. Neurological symptoms – Headache, Confusion which may progress to Encephalitis. Long term neurological complications seen in 20% of patients who make a full recovery
5. Multiple organ failure in severe cases.

∆ Fatality : 50-75%

∆ Diagnosis :
Mainly RT-PCR of respiratory samples, blood and CSF
Samples pose an extreme biohazard risk. Laboratory testing is done under maximum biological containment conditions.

∆ Treatment :
There are no known specific treatment or drugs to combat Nipah Virus, but early diagnosis promotes high-end supportive treatment, such as
1. Identification of any complications.
2. Symptomatic treatment for other diseases of the patient.
3. Oxygen therapy if required.
4. Transporting the patient to ICU if symptoms become severe.
5. Maintenance of adequate nutrition and hydration.

∆ Prevention :
1. Raising community awareness regarding Nipah virus, its transmission and risk factors.
2. Ensuring decreased bat access to date palm sap collection sites. Sap, upon collection, must be boiled multiple times.
3. Ensuring proper washing and peeling of fruits. Discard fruit if there is any bite mark.
4. If a person shows signs and symptoms similar to those caused by Nipah virus, the person must be isolated and refered to the nearest healthcare facility.

This shows how important the discovery of vaccines is in the history of medical science.
