আজ ২১শে ফেব্রুয়ারি। রক্তে রাঙানো সেই অমর স্মৃতিবিজড়িত দিন। আজ থেকে কয়েক দশক আগে, ১৯৫২ সালের এই দিনে বাংলার দামাল ছেলেরা ঢাকার রাজপথে নিজেদের বুকের তাজা রক্ত ঢেলে দিয়েছিল শুধু একটি দাবির জন্য—নিজের মায়ের ভাষায় কথা বলার অধিকার।
একুশ মানে মাথা নত না করা
একুশ মানে কেবল একটি তারিখ নয়, একুশ একটি চেতনা। এটি শোষণের বিরুদ্ধে শোষিতের প্রথম গর্জন। সালাম, বরকত, রফিক, জব্বার আর শফিউরের মতো বীরদের আত্মত্যাগের বিনিময়ে আমরা পেয়েছি আমাদের প্রিয় বর্ণমালা—'অ', 'আ', 'ক', 'খ'। পৃথিবীর ইতিহাসে বাঙালিই একমাত্র জাতি, যারা ভাষার জন্য জীবন দিয়েছে। তাদের সেই রক্ত আজ বৃথা যায়নি; আজ সারা বিশ্ব এই দিনটিকে 'আন্তর্জাতিক মাতৃভাষা দিবস' হিসেবে পালন করছে, যা আমাদের জন্য পরম গৌরবের।
স্মৃতিস্তম্ভে ফুল দেওয়া আর প্রভাতফেরিতে অংশ নেওয়াই কি একুশের মূল সার্থকতা? না। একুশের প্রকৃত চেতনা হলো আমাদের প্রাত্যহিক জীবনে বাংলা ভাষার সঠিক প্রয়োগ নিশ্চিত করা। আমাদের নতুন প্রজন্মের কাছে এই বীরত্বগাথা পৌঁছে দেওয়া এবং সর্বস্তরে শুদ্ধ বাংলার চর্চা করা আমাদের নৈতিক দায়িত্ব।
আসুন, আজ এই পবিত্র দিনে আমরা শপথ নেই—আমরা আমাদের ভাষাকে ভালোবাসব, দেশের মাটিকে ভালোবাসব। ভাষার জন্য যারা প্রাণ দিয়েছেন, তাদের সেই আত্মত্যাগের মর্যাদা আমরা ক্ষুণ্ণ হতে দেব না।
"যতকাল রবে পদ্মা মেঘনা গৌরী যমুনা বহমান,
ততকাল রবে একুশের স্মৃতি বাঙালির হৃদয়ে অম্লান।"
সকল ভাষা শহীদের আত্মার মাগফেরাত কামনা করছি এবং তাদের প্রতি গভীর শ্রদ্ধা নিবেদন করছি।
Today is the 21st of February—a day etched in blood and glory. In 1952, on this very day, the brave sons of Bengal sacrificed their lives on the streets of Dhaka for the right to speak their mother tongue.
Ekushey: The Symbol of Resistance
February 21st is not just a date; it is a symbol of our identity and our refusal to bow down to oppression. Heroes like Salam, Barkat, Rafiq, and Jabbar wrote our history with their blood. Because of their ultimate sacrifice, we can speak our language today with pride. It is a moment of immense honor that the world now recognizes this day as International Mother Language Day.
Real tribute to the martyrs goes beyond placing flowers at the Shaheed Minar. It lies in nurturing our language, practicing it correctly, and passing the torch of this heritage to future generations. Let us pledge today to uphold the dignity of our mother tongue in every sphere of life.
