৩১ অক্টোবর, অক্টোবর মাসের সমাপ্তি;

I used to feed biscuits and bread to dogs since my school days, I'd pet them, but I was also scared they might bite. Back then, I didn't know how to treat injured street dogs from accidents. I would show them affection, and just leave biscuits for them.

After getting a mobile phone with internet, I started learning little by little about dog diseases and treatment from various animal groups on Google and Facebook. Then, leaving behind the constraints of school and college life, I came to Pabna in 2019 for a free and independent life.

I was very happy to see the campus puppies. During my first year, I would play with them and show them affection before entering class and after finishing class. I was very confused about moving into the campus dorm, but after finally moving in, I feel like I've experienced everything in life.

Essentially, my enthusiasm for working with cats and dogs multiplied several times after moving into the dorm. I would feed, pet, and play with the dogs around the campus.

On a rainy day, a mother dog brought her two newborn puppies behind the jute building. My friend, Mehedi Hasan, gave me the news. After being soaked in the rain for a day or two, both puppies were in bad shape. I cleaned up an abandoned space that used to be a tin-shed bicycle garage/canteen and made arrangements for the mother dog and her babies to stay there.

Unfortunately, one of the puppies developed maggots. Despite my best efforts, I couldn't save it. After one puppy died, the other became quiet, barely making a sound for almost a month. I named him 'Jimmy'.

Regularly feeding the mother and baby led to a friendship, and he became an adorable dog to many on campus. At one point, Jimmy stayed with me more than with his mother, sleeping next to my dorm room. I even ran an extra 'meal service' for him. Many people in the dorm would give him food, fish, and meat.

Once he was stolen. A few batchmates and I searched extensively and found him. His routine was to move around the campus. He never went out onto the road.

A friend once said that the things you love too much don't stay long. Everyone went to my friend Sourav's elder brother's wedding at Naogaon, but I stayed back just for Jimmy, and that was the time Jimmy went onto the road. He was hit by an easy-bike. After finding him, I thought he only had a leg injury, but I didn't realize he had internal bleeding. Since it was Friday and evening, the veterinary hospital was closed. I planned to take him the next morning and kept him in a carton under my table for the night. He looked at me all night, and we both stayed awake, waiting for the morning. He was crying out to go to his mother outside, so I let him go to his mother in the early morning. I slept for about 30 to 40 minutes. An elder (Mama) came and told me, "Your dog has died." I rushed out and saw that he had truly passed away.

"A dog never dies inside its owner's house," perhaps that's why he was restless to go outside.

I buried him with my own hands at 'Depression Chotttor'.

Jimmy's mother then became my everyday companion. She would go with me even when I went for tutoring, and she would follow me to the town, Edward-Shahar, too.

I joined the Pabna Animal Group and got to know Shawon Bhai, Toha Bhai, Vet Mamun Bhai, and Badhon. We started working together as a group called 'Pabna Animal Lover Hub'. I learned so much from them. At the same time, I took an online veterinary course and would talk about small topics with people studying veterinary science, which gave me a good understanding of dogs.

Then, next to a mother cat and two dead kittens from a street accident, there was a white kitten. I kept the kitten on campus, but when two dogs started chasing it, I brought it into my room. I still didn't properly know how to raise a cat. That kitten would sleep and 'potty' on my bed. I never used a mosquito net for myself, but I put one up so the cat couldn't go out from the bed. Within a month, I taught him to 'potty' outside the room. I named him - 'Khorgosh' (Rabbit). Some of my friend used to called her " Rani". Also there was a cat named Kallu-Billu who stayed on my bed; he was the most talented cat I've ever seen.

I met a girl in Pabna named Khushbu. I learned about all the issues related to raising cats from her. Slowly, Khushbu became a very good friend and like a sister to me, practically twin siblings. I faced many problems with cats and dogs, and Khushbu helped a lot.

After getting a bicycle from Partha Da, I started working with cats and dogs in Pabna Road and Holly Goli alongside my cycle tours. It felt very rewarding that I was able to feed and treat the dogs of Saint Martin during the 'Rag Tour'.

I didn't go home for several campus holidays just thinking about the cats and dogs. When Khorgosh grew up, I would take him to Khulna and bring him back in a basket. Slowly, Khorgosh also became a favorite of many on campus. Most people love him. My dorm mates also tolerated a lot of trouble. Currently, my younger brother and mother look after Khorgosh in Khulna.

From Pabna Textile Engineering College, in two years, 2023-24, I adopted out and rescued almost 150+ cats. Along with my certificate from campus, I gained children like Jimmy, Khorgosh, and Khorgoh's mother.
I am grateful to all the people who have helped and cooperated with me in working with dogs and cats.

Inspite of the hustle bustle of corporate life, I never miss any chance to engage with these innocent souls. I wish all human being do the same, as there is a saying, "He serves God who loves living beings".
