1. Read the following story. It is not complete. Use your imagination to complete it and give a suitable title to it.

There were two friends. They lived in a certain village. They promised that they would help each other at the time of danger. One day they were passing through a deep forest. Suddenly a bear came in front of them. So, both of them were afraid and -----------------------------------------------

There were two friends. They lived in a certain village. They promised that they would help each other at the time of danger. One day they were passing through a deep forest. Suddenly a bear came in front of them. So, both of them were afraid and were at a loss what to do. One of them knew how to climb a tree. He at once climbed in a tree and hid himself. The other man finding no alternatives felt on the ground and held his breath pretending to be dead. The bear came up to him and smelt his nose, ears and face, took him to be dead man and left the place. When the bear was gone, the man in the tree came down and said, “Thanks god, you are saved”. But friend, I saw the bear puts it’s mouth very close to your ear, did it say anything to you?” The friend replied, yes. The bear told me not trust a friend who left me in danger to seek his own safety.

2.Q. Complete the following incomplete story using your imagination. Then give a title to it.
Once a thirsty crow was flying ------------in search of water ---------------saw a pitcher nearly ------------. He tried to dip his beak --------------- to upset-------------he caught sight of some stones ---------------- .He picked up some of them and began to drop------------the water seemed to rise a little-----------to reach of his beak. The crow -------------quenched his thirst by drinking ----------------- he liked.

Ans: Once, a thirsty crow was flying one place to another place in search of water. But he found no water. The crow did not lose hope. At last, he saw a pitcher/a jar nearly and flew to it. He peeped into the jar and saw that there was a little water in the jar. He tried to dip his beak but failed. Because, the water was at the bottom of the jar. He tried to overturn the jar but failed. Then he decided to fly away in despair. When he was leaving the place he saw some pebbles nearby. A new idea came to his mind. He picked up the pebbles one by one and dropped them into the Jar. The water of the jar rose up and the crow drank water and flew away. So it is called , “There is will there is way.”

3. Read the following incomplete story and develop them into a complete story.
Give a suitable title to it.

A farmer had three sons -------------- He called his sons----------- farmer asked them to break it ------------------- untie the bundle ----------they broke them---------- nobody can harm you.

A farmer had three sons. They always quarreled with each other. At last he hit upon a plan. He called all his sons and asked them to bring a bundle of sticks. Accordingly, they brought a bundle of sticks. Then the farmer asked them to break it. The three sons tried one after another. But none could break it. Then their father asked them to untie the bundle and told each of his sons to take one stick. Each of the boys took one stick. Their father asked them to break the sticks. Now they broke them easily. Then the farmer explained his sons, “Unity is strength”.

4.Q. Read the following outlines and develop them into a complete story. Give a suitable title to your story.

One a hare met a tortoise .......you cannot run as fast as I can, ............. “You can run quite fast, no doubt. But I think, you can talk even faster than you can run”......But at the time of taking rest he unconsciously slept in a deep sleep,......... he started to run again ....... he was perplexed to see the tortoise........ reached the place .......felt much ashamed for this pride ..........From that time the hare become conscious ......follow the example of the tortoise.

Ans: Once there were a hare and a tortoise in a certain place. A hare is a speedy animal. So it felt proud. It always blamed the tortoise for its slowness. One day the hare invited the tortoise to run a race. The tortoise accepted the invitation.
All the animals of the jungle came to see the race. The race started. The hare ran very fast and was far ahead of the tortoise. He looked back and saw the tortoise lagging far behind. He thought, “The tortoise is too slow. He will take a long time to reach here. Let me have some rest.” So, he lay down in the shade of a tree. He fell asleep. But the tortoise ran on and on. He never looked back. He began to run slowly but steadily. Soon he was about to reach the destination. All on a sudden the hare woke up and saw that the tortoise was about to reach the destination. The hare began to run as fast as he could. But he could not overtake the tortoise. The tortoise had already reached the destination.

5. Read the following outlines and develop them into a complete story. Give a suitable title to your story.

Once a dog stole a piece of meat from a butcher’s shop. ------------- a narrow stream--------bridged -----across it. -----look down. He saw his own image on the clear water below.----another piece of meat. “------ get his piece.”-------In fact it was his own shadow and not another dog. -----the piece of meat fell down from his mouth--------------. it was lost for ever.------

Once, a dog stole a piece of meat from a butcher’s shop. The dog ran off with it in his mouth. On his way, there was a narrow stream. The stream was bridged over by a plank placed across it. As the dog was on the plank, he happened to look down. He saw his own image on the clear water below. He took it for another piece of meat. “I must fight that out and get his piece.” said he. “I am so hungry.” In fact it was his own shadow and not another dog. As he opened his mouth to bark at his own shadow, the piece of meat felt down from his mouth. It dropped into the stream. He jumped into the water at once to get back his piece of meat. Much as he searched for it by diving and swimming, it was lost for ever. Forever, it was carried away by the current of the stream.

6.Q. Read the following outlines and develop them into a complete story. Give a suitable title to your story.

Once a hungry fox was searching for food in the forest. After a while, he came to a vine yard........was tempted by the beautiful ripe grapes.......hanging high......he jumped and jumped to reach the grapes....... “’the grapes are sour. I don’t want to have the grapes.

But this time anybody did not come. They thought that he was making fun with them. This time the wolf \the tiger killed the boy. The boy was punished for his lies forever.

Once, a lion was sleeping in a forest. Suddenly a mouse came there. It did not notice the sleeping lion. It was running about and playing happily. By chance it ran over the face of the lion. It awoke the lion. At this the lion grew very angry..........

He bit the net with his sharp teeth and at last cut it off away out easily. He thus set the lion free. Thus the great lion was saved by the little mouse.

Each time he ate some from larger part to equal it and put on the scale. Thus, he ate up the entire cake. The foolish cats/rats were deceived by the monkey in this way and went away.

There lived a king in a country. His kingdom was invaded by enemies. The king fought bravely but lost the battle. He wished to regain his kingdom at any cost He made six attempts one after another to curb his enemies but failed. Then he could see a spider trying hard to reach the ceiling of the cave. The spider failed repeatedly but did not give up hope. The king saw that the spider became successful to climb up the ceiling of the roof by the seventh attempts. This inspired the king. He became resolved to fight again. He gathered an army of strong men and attacked his enemies. This time, he became successful to defeat them and regained his kingdom.

Auxiliary (Helping) Verbs

Auxiliary means functioning in a supporting capacity, and that is exactly what these auxiliary verbs do, which is why they are also known as helping verbs. They are used together with a main verb to give grammatical information and therefore add extra meaning to a sentence; information that is not given by the main verb.

They are used to form the passive voice.

They are used to form the continuous tense.

They are used to form the perfect tense.

Be, Do and Have are auxiliary verbs, they are irregular verbs and can be used as main verbs. The verbs 'to be' and 'to have' are the most commonly used auxiliary verbs and work alongside the main verbs in any statement.

Modal verbs are also auxiliary verbs, but will be treated separately, these are can, could, may, might, must, shall, should, will, and would, they differ from the others in that they can never function as a main verb.
To be

Be is the most common verb in the English language. It can be used as an auxiliary and a main verb. It is used a lot in its other forms.

Base form = be

Present form = am/is/are

Past form = was/were

Present Participle / Gerund = being

Past Participle = been

The Formulas of English Tenses

It is necessary to learn all tense forms by heart. The best way is to memorize them in the following formula: Personal pronoun + tense form (I write, he writes, we write, you write, etc.) Memorizing tense forms in such constructions will also help you to memorize basic agreement between the subject and predicate in person and number.



Необходимо выучить все временные формы наизусть. Лучше всего запоминать их в следующей формуле: Личное местоимение + временная форма (I write, he writes, we write, you write и т.д.)
