📢 🩺 FCPS Part 1 Dermatology Prep: Different forms of Psoriasis – Made Simple! 📚
Psoriasis isn’t just a skin condition — it’s a chronic, immune-mediated, systemic inflammatory disorder, that you must master for the exam. We will know about it's various types, there will be quiz at the end of the post.
🔎 🅲LINICAL 🅵EATURES
1️⃣ 𝐏𝐥𝐚𝐪𝐮𝐞 𝐏𝐬𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐬𝐢𝐬 (Vulgaris) – Most common ✅
🔹 Well-demarcated erythematous plaques + silvery white scales
🔹 Auspitz sign = pinpoint bleeding on scratching
🔹 Sites: elbows, knees, scalp, lower back, umbilicus, ears (face ⬇️, but more in kids)
2️⃣ 𝐆𝐮𝐭𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐏𝐬𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐬𝐢𝐬 – “Drop-like” lesions 💧
🔹 Small, scaly plaques
🔹 Often after strep throat (think 👩🎓 sore throat → skin rash)
3️⃣ 𝐈𝐧𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐞 (𝐅𝐥𝐞𝐱𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐥) 𝐏𝐬𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐬𝐢𝐬 – Hidden folds 🔄
🔹 Axilla, groin, inframammary, intergluteal cleft
🔹 No scale (moist areas)
4️⃣ 𝐏𝐚𝐥𝐦𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐫 𝐏𝐬𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐬𝐢𝐬 – Thick skin, tough to treat! ✋🦶
🔹 Dry, scaly patches or pustules on palms/soles
5️⃣ 𝐏𝐬𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐜 𝐍𝐚𝐢𝐥 𝐃𝐢𝐬𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐞 – Exam favorite! 💅
🔹 Pitting, oil spots, onycholysis, subungual hyperkeratosis
🔹 Red flag 🚩 – ↑ risk of psoriatic arthritis
6️⃣ 𝐏𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐮𝐥𝐚𝐫 𝐏𝐬𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐬𝐢𝐬 – Severe variant ⚠️
🔹 Sterile pustules (localized or generalized)
🔹 Generalized (Von Zumbusch) = medical emergency 🚑
7️⃣ 𝐄𝐫𝐲𝐭𝐡𝐫𝐨𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐦𝐢𝐜 𝐏𝐬𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐬𝐢𝐬 – Life-threatening ❗
🔹 Diffuse redness & scaling over most of body
🔹 Risk of high-output cardiac failure, sepsis
