MEXT Scholarship Guide
STEP #1:Detailed

Hope you all are enjoying good health.
Most of the students ask multiple questions regarding MEXT, so I'll try to address all one by one.

1st step is to email the professors for an acceptance (not for an acceptance letter)

Before writing an email, do deep research on the professor's field of interest and make sure it aligns with your research interests and experience.

Now write an email that should include:
1. Subject
2. Email body
3. CV
1. Subject should be concise and relevant, like "Interested in pursuing PhD/Master's in Hiroshi's lab/under your supervision."
2. Email body:
Dear Prof. XYZ,
1st paragraph: Purpose of email, why you are writing and how it relates to you (Brief)
2nd paragraph: About you (educational background- last university, degree, research experience, research interests, publications etc), how it aligns with the professor's research (mention 2,3 research interests of the professor and relate your work experience with that, good if you mention the most relevant publication of the professor).
3rd paragraph: 1) gently and concisely mention your other skills, like leadership, communication, or you have worked in other extracurricular activities.
2) concluding lines.

For CV, use the Europass format and add relevant things only.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask, but request: 1st search and try things by yourself.

Best of Luck.

🧠 Depression Is Not Just “Low Serotonin” - It's a Whole-Brain Battle
You've heard it, right?

"Depression is just a chemical imbalance."

That’s a neat story.
But neuroscience says otherwise.

đŸ§Ŧ Depression is not just one faulty chemical.
It’s a complex dance between brain circuits, nerve growth, memory systems, emotion centers, and your body’s response to chronic stress.

Let’s break it down:

🔹 Amygdala – This is your brain’s emotion detector. It lights up during fear, sorrow, and stress. In depression, it’s hyperactive — even after recovery. That might explain why some people always feel “on edge.”

🔹 Hippocampus – This part handles memory and learning. In depressed brains, it’s often shrunken. Stress hormones can shrink it and stop new neurons from growing here. Fewer neurons = foggier memory and a bleaker outlook.

🔹 Thalamus – This acts like a relay station, routing sensory data to the cortex. It’s involved in how we perceive emotions and make decisions. In depression, this system may be misfiring, leading to dull thinking and emotional numbness.

🔹 Basal Ganglia (not mentioned in the figure) – Not just for movement! It helps with motivation, emotional filtering, and reward processing. Changes here may cause that heavy, unmotivated, “why bother?” feeling common in depression.

And those neurotransmitters like serotonin, dopamine, and norepinephrine? Yes, they’re involved too - but they’re just messengers in a far more complicated network.

💊 Even antidepressants don’t work by just “fixing chemicals.” They often take weeks to help, likely because they stimulate neurogenesis (new brain cell growth) and reconnect broken circuits.

So, no - it’s not "all in your head."
It’s deep inside your brain, and it’s very real.

You are not weak. You are not lazy.
You are fighting an invisible war your brain hasn’t yet learned how to win.
