Farewell Ceremony of Dr. Mokhlesur Rahman

On Thursday, 9 July 2026, the Department of Civil Engineering, DUET, Gazipur, arranged a farewell ceremony to honor Dr. Mokhlesur Rahman on the occasion of his retirement after more than 33 years of dedicated service (02 May 1993 – 11 July 2026). The program was chaired by the Head of the Department, Prof. Dr. Md. Abu Taiyab, and was attended by faculty members, officers, staff, and well-wishers.

During the ceremony, colleagues shared their memories and expressed their sincere appreciation for Dr. Mokhlesur Rahman's valuable contributions to teaching, research, and the development of the department. In his farewell speech, Dr. Mokhlesur Rahman looked back on his long academic career, thanked his colleagues and students for their support, and encouraged everyone to continue working together with dedication, honesty, and unity.

As a token of love and respect, the department presented Dr. Mokhlesur Rahman with a commemorative crest and other gifts in recognition of his outstanding service. The Department of Civil Engineering wishes him good health, happiness, and a peaceful, fulfilling retired life.

The Department of Civil Engineering, Dhaka University of Engineering & Technology, Gazipur - DUET is pleased to announce the 3rd International Conference on Recent Innovations in Civil Engineering for Sustainable Development (IICSD–2027), which will be held on 05–06 February 2027 in hybrid mode.

The conference aims to bring together researchers, academicians, industry professionals, and students from around the world to exchange knowledge, present innovative research, and discuss emerging challenges and sustainable solutions in civil engineering.

Researchers and professionals are cordially invited to submit their abstracts and full papers and participate in this international forum for academic collaboration and knowledge sharing.

On Tuesday, March 31, Prof. Dr. Md. Showkat Osman formally bid farewell to the Department of Civil Engineering on the occasion of his retirement. The farewell ceremony was presided over by the Head of the Department, Prof. Dr. Md. Abu Taiyab, and was attended by faculty members, staff, and other relevant individuals.

During the event, several colleagues expressed deep emotion while reflecting on contributions.of Prof. Dr. Md. Showkat Osman and shared memories.

On this memorable occasion, he recounted his 42-year professional journey and advised members of the department to remain united under all circumstances. As a token of appreciation, the department presented him with special gifts in recognition of his distinguished service.

At the beginning of the ceremony, the honorable Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Mohammad Zoynal Abedin, and the Pro-Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Md. Arefin Kowser, were present. In addition, department heads from various disciplines, directors of institutes, and other administrative officials attended the event. Together, they expressed their sincere gratitude to Prof. Dr. Md. Showkat Osman for his long and dedicated service spanning 42 years.

পুরকৌশল বিভাগের দ্বিতীয় বর্ষের ছাত্র নূর মোহাম্মদ নাঈম সম্প্রতি এক মর্মান্তিক দুর্ঘটনায় গুরুতর আহত হয়ে জাতীয় অর্থোপেডিক হাসপাতাল ও পুনর্বাসন প্রতিষ্ঠানে চিকিৎসাধীন রয়েছে। গত বৃহস্পতিবার জয়দেবপুর থেকে ঢাকা আসার পথে ট্রেনে বসে থাকার সময় ছিনতাইকারীরা তার মোবাইল ছিনিয়ে নেওয়ার চেষ্টা করলে সে তা প্রতিহত করার চেষ্টা করেছে। এ সময় ছিনতাইকারীরা তাকে চলন্ত ট্রেন থেকে ফেলে দিয়েছে, ফলে সে ট্রেনের নিচে পড়ে মারাত্মকভাবে আহত হয়েছে। চিকিৎসকদের সিদ্ধান্ত অনুযায়ী তার বাম পা অস্ত্রোপচারের মাধ্যমে অপসারণ করা হয়েছে এবং বর্তমানে সে ICU-তে চিকিৎসাধীন রয়েছে।

গতকাল রাতে পুরকৌশল বিভাগের পক্ষ থেকে নবনিযুক্ত বিভাগীয় প্রধান অধ্যাপক ড. মোঃ আবু তৈয়ব, মহিমান জিন্নুরাইন, সহকারী অধ্যাপক, এবং মো: জামিল মাহমুদ, প্রভাষক হাসপাতালে গিয়ে নাঈমকে দেখে এসেছেন এবং তার পরিবারের সদস্যদের সঙ্গে সাক্ষাৎ করে মানসিক সাহস ও প্রয়োজনীয় সহায়তার আশ্বাস দিয়েছেন।
নাঈমের দ্রুত আরোগ্য কামনা করে বিভাগের পক্ষ থেকে সবার কাছে তার জন্য দোয়া কামনা করা হয়েছে।

ডুয়েটের পুরকৌশল বিভাগে এক আনুষ্ঠানিক সভার মাধ্যমে নবনিযুক্ত বিভাগীয় প্রধান অধ্যাপক ড. মোঃ আবু তৈয়বকে বিভাগের শিক্ষকবৃন্দ ফুলেল শুভেচ্ছা জানিয়ে বরণ করে নেন। দায়িত্ব হস্তান্তর উপলক্ষে আয়োজিত এই সভায় সদ্য সাবেক বিভাগীয় প্রধান অধ্যাপক ড. মোহাম্মদ আলাউদ্দিনকে আনুষ্ঠানিকভাবে বিদায় জানানো হয়। এ সময় বিভাগের শিক্ষকবৃন্দ তাঁর দায়িত্ব পালনকালীন সময়ের বিভিন্ন স্মৃতিচারণ করেন এবং বিভাগের উন্নয়ন ও অগ্রগতিতে তাঁর অবদানের কথা গভীর শ্রদ্ধার সাথে স্মরণ করেন।

উক্ত সভায় কো-অর্ডিনেটর (পোস্টগ্র্যাজুয়েট প্রোগ্রাম) পদেও দায়িত্ব হস্তান্তর সম্পন্ন হয়। অধ্যাপক ড. মোঃ মনোয়ার হোসেন দায়িত্বভার হস্তান্তর করেন এবং নবনিযুক্ত কো-অর্ডিনেটর হিসেবে সহযোগী অধ্যাপক ড. মোঃ জাকির হাসানকে ফুলেল শুভেচ্ছা জানিয়ে আনুষ্ঠানিকভাবে দায়িত্ব প্রদান করা হয়।

এ দিনের অনুষ্ঠানের একটি বিশেষ আকর্ষণ ছিল পুরকৌশল বিভাগের অফিসিয়াল ফেসবুক পেইজের শুভ উদ্বোধন। নবনিযুক্ত বিভাগীয় প্রধান অধ্যাপক ড. মোঃ আবু তৈয়বের হাত দিয়ে এই পেইজের আনুষ্ঠানিক উদ্বোধন সম্পন্ন হয়, যা বিভাগের একাডেমিক কার্যক্রম ও তথ্য আদান-প্রদানে নতুন মাত্রা যোগ করবে বলে আশা প্রকাশ করা হয়।
