Viktor Frankl explained a subtle psychological state he called “Sunday Neurosis.”

It is the feeling of emptiness, anxiety, or sadness that appears on Sunday evenings — not because of Monday itself, but because silence finally returns.

When the noise of work, scrolling, and distraction slows down, a person is left alone with their inner world.

And in that quiet moment, something becomes visible:

Not boredom.
Not fatigue.

But a lack of purpose.

Frankl believed this emptiness is not just emotional — it is existential.

It is what happens when a person is alive, but not connected to meaning.

We try to escape it by staying busy.
By avoiding silence.
By filling every gap with distraction.

But the feeling returns every Sunday.

Because it is not a problem of time.

It is a problem of direction.

Maybe the question Sunday asks us is not “What will I do tomorrow?”

But:
“Why am I doing any of this at all?”

And until that question finds an answer,
the emptiness will keep coming back.
