Japan Foundation Test for Basic Japanese (JFT-Basic)
This is a standardized test designed to measure the Japanese language proficiency needed by foreign nationals who plan to live and work in Japan, especially those applying for the Specified Skilled Worker (SSW) visa.
Key aspects of the JFT-Basic:
Purpose: To assess whether someone has enough Japanese language ability to communicate in everyday situations and handle daily life in Japan without major difficulties.
Format: It's a computer-based test (CBT) and evaluates four areas:
Letters and Vocabulary: Knowledge of basic vocabulary, kanji, and common phrases.
Conversation and Expression: Ability to understand spoken Japanese and use appropriate expressions in conversations.
Listening Comprehension: Understanding spoken Japanese in various contexts (announcements, conversations, instructions).
Reading Comprehension: Ability to understand written Japanese (signs, notices, short texts).
Recognition: It's widely recognized as a benchmark for Japanese language proficiency, particularly for immigration and employment purposes in Japan.
