Students of BSS 2022 from the Department of Sociology, Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP), successfully completed a five-day academic field visit to the Rohingya Camp in Ukhiya, Coxโs Bazar, as part of the course Sociology of Migration and Diaspora.
The program was conducted under the supervision of Associate Professor Al Jamal Mustafa Shindiani. Institutional support was provided by Lieutenant Colonel Ali Haider Azad Ahmed, BGBM, PBGM, G+, Chairman of the Department of Sociology, BUP. To ensure the successful and smooth completion of the field visit, Lecturer Nusrat Jahan Suchi and Lecturer Redwan Islam Palash provided continuous guidance and support to the students throughout the program.
During the field visit, the students participated in briefing sessions at ILO and RRRC. In addition, they conducted extensive fieldwork and data collection activities within the Rohingya Camp, gaining practical experience in migration studies, refugee issues, and humanitarian challenges. The students also attended a specialized briefing session at the BRAC Centre for Peace and Justice, which further enriched their understanding of displacement, social integration, and policy responses related to the Rohingya crisis.
Through this field visit, the students gained hands-on research experience by directly engaging with both the Rohingya community and the local host community. This experience significantly enhanced their academic and analytical understanding of migration and diaspora studies.
Later, the students presented their research findings and analyses based on the data collected from the field.
Finally, certificates were distributed among the students in the presence of the respected Dean, Chairman and faculty members.

Students of MSS 2025, BSS 2023 and 2024 completed a four-day academic field visit to BARD, Cumilla, as part of their coursework.
The program focused on Advanced Data Analysis in Social Research, Quantitative Data Analysis, and Qualitative Data Analysis in Sociology.
The visit was conducted under the supervision of Associate Professor Al Jamal Mustafa Shindiani, along with Associate Professor Dr. Abul Kalam Azad and Lecturer Md. Tanvir Mahtab.
Institutional support was provided by Lieutenant Colonel Ali Haider Azad Ahmed, BGBM, PBGM, G+, Chairman, Department of Sociology, BUP.
Lecturer Bakia Jeni and Lecturer Shammi Akter facilitated student learning and engagement throughout the program.
A specialized training session by Abdullah Al Mamun, Director (Training), enriched studentsโ understanding of applied research.
Fieldwork in four villages of Cumilla enabled students to gain hands-on experience in data collection and rural social analysis.
The field visit concluded with a certificate-giving ceremony held in the presence of the Chairman, course instructors, Director (Training), and other officials.

Celebration of 'Bangla Noboborsho 1433'
Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP) celebrated 'Bangla Noboborsho 1433' with vibrant festivities on 14 April 2026 arranged by BUP Cultural Forum. To make the day memorable, a series of traditional programmes were organised at the Monpura Field and Concourse of BUP from the early morning of Pahela Baishakh. The celebration featured an array of delicious traditional Bengali food, various competitions, games, and a festive Baishakhi Fair that reflected the rich heritage of Bengali culture.
The Vice Chancellor of BUP, Major General Md Mahbub-ul Alam, BSP, ndc, afwc, psc, MPhil, PhD graced the occasion as the Chief Guest and officially inaugurated the Baishakhi Fair. In the programme, BUP high officials, teachers, staffs, family members and students were also present.

Fatiha Sharmin, Sociology Batch 2023, was selected to participate in the 4th International Conference on Social Sciences in the Modern Era, which was held in Regent's University, London, United Kingdom, from 20-22 February.
She was the youngest presenter among all participants; and her paper was the first study from Bangladesh to be chosen for this conference.
After a thorough double-blind peer review process, her paper, titled "The Past and Present of Aquaculture and Fisheries: A Focus on the Economy of Rural Bangladesh," was chosen as to be presented orally. Her presentation was on the topic of Sustainability, Strategy, and Economic Transformation, emphasising how Bangladesh's rural fisheries are changing as a result of intense commercialisation, shifting cultural influences, and political and administrative power dynamics.

Today, the Department of Sociology, Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP), successfully conducted the Orientation Programme for the newly admitted students of BSS in Sociology, Batchโ10.
The respected Chairman and faculty members had an engaging interaction with the freshers, sharing useful academic advice and practical insights about departmental activities and student life at BUP.
