Appointed New VC of Ahsanullah University of Science & Technology (AUST)

Prof. Dr. Md. Ashraful Hoque was born in Rangpur, a northern city in Bangladesh. He completed his Bachelor from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), Bangladesh in 1986 in the discipline of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE). He obtained his Masters and Ph.D. degree in 1993 and in 1996, respectively, from Memorial University of Newfoundland, Canada under CIDA scholarship program. He has an excellent academic background that states that he obtained first classes in all examinations with outstanding achievement in SSC (5th Position), HSC (1st Position) and excellent grade (Dean’s list) at Masters and Ph.D. level from Canada. He joined as a Lecturer in Rajshahi University of Engineering 1986 and continued until 2006 as Assistant Professor, Associate Professor and Professor, respectively. Later in 2007, he joined as a Professor in the department of EEE at Islamic University of Technology. During his career, he worked in different administrative positions such as, Provost Female Hall of Residence, Head, Research Extension, Advisory Services and Publications (REASP), Head of EEE department and Dean of the faculty of Engineering and Technology in IUT.
In addition he worked as the Chairman of different committees like Admission Committee, Internal Rules and Regulations Review Committee, Recruitment and Promotion Committee, etc at IUT. At present, he is working as the Acting Pro Vice-Chancellor of IUT since November 2023 till to date.

He worked as an Expert member in the various selection Boards for the recruitment of faculty members of CUET, DUET, JUST. At present he is working as the expert member of Pabna University of Science and Technology, Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur. He is also working as the expert technical member in the different committees of National University of Bangladesh.

In his academic career, he supervised a number of Masters and several Ph.D. students. He also worked as the external member of the number of Ph.D. examination boards at BUET, RUET and KUET. He has published 100 papers including 41 International Journal papers and 59 conference Proceedings. He worked as the organizing chair, session chair, keynote speaker, paper reviewer, etc in various national & international seminars, workshops, conferences. His research interest is Power Converters and application of artificial intelligence in motor drives. He is also involved in the research of the applications of power electronics in renewable energy.

We are back. Our FB page got suspended right after we changed our profile photo to red (literally in 2 minutes of change the DP) due to a large number of false reports. After a long wait and series of review requests, with the help of an AUST alumni (FB employee) we were able to come back successfully. Let us roar again together !

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the devastating news of the passing of our beloved Professor Dr. M. Mirjahan Miah sir, a true legend in the field of Civil Engineering. Words cannot express the depth of our grief and the immense void left by his departure.

Professor Miah sir was not just a teacher; he was a mentor, a guide, and an inspiration to generations of civil engineers. His dedication to the profession and his unwavering commitment to his students were unparalleled. Throughout his illustrious career, he touched the lives of countless individuals, shaping the future of civil engineering in Bangladesh and beyond.

As a renowned professor in the Department of Civil Engineering at both AUST and BUET, Professor Miah sir played a pivotal role in imparting knowledge and fostering a passion for learning within his students. His lectures were captivating, his guidance invaluable, and his wisdom immeasurable. He had a unique ability to simplify complex concepts and ignite a curiosity that pushed his students to excel.

Beyond his academic contributions, Professor Miah was a beacon of integrity, kindness, and humility. He always made time for his students, offering guidance and support, and believed in their potential even when they doubted themselves. Many of us owe our successes to his unwavering belief in our abilities.
