This occurs when there is a lack of sufficient evidence to support a conclusion or inform a decision. Discussion often revolves around mixed or conflicting results from previous studies, or when existing studies are too small or poor quality to be conclusive. More rigorous or larger-scale studies are needed to build a robust evidence base.

📌Knowledge.Gap

This is the most general type, referring to a topic or area where little or no research has been conducted at all. It indicates a fundamental lack of understanding about a concept, relationship, or phenomenon. Research here is often exploratory and aims to establish basic facts and relationships.

📌Practical-Knowedge Conflict Gap

This gap arises when the research findings conflict with professional practice or common sense, or when practitioners' experience suggests a different outcome than what the academic literature indicates. The discussion focuses on reconciling theory with reality—e.g., investigating why an intervention that worked in a lab setting fails in a real-world environment.

The research seeks to ensure findings are relevant and applicable to underrepresented populations.

First, see if the research is related to your topic or not.

2. Check the publication source.
See which journal or conference the paper was published in. A trusted journal like Elsevier Springer IEEE Taylor and Francis etc. is usually more credible.

3. Check the number of citations.
