Professor Mahbub Alam Majumdar, who is the Dean of the School of Data and Computational Sciences at BRAC University, called on Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus on Monday at the state guest house Jamuna.

He has recently been awarded the Spirit of Salam Award 2026 by the Abdus Salam International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP). This prestigious international award honors individuals who exemplify the values and legacy of Nobel Laureate Professor Abdus Salam through exceptional contributions to science, education, and capacity-building in the developing world.

Dean of School of Data Science Professor Dr. Mahbub Majumdar highlighted the power of students, saying, “When we started doing the Maths Olympiad, people were skeptical about how much our students could do, but now we have a gold medal in the International Math Olympiad. We are excited to share an inspiring message from Professor Mahbub Majumdar, the convener of the Jamal Nazrul Islam Memorial Winter School 2025, Dean of the School of Data and Sciences at BRAC University, and National Coach of the Bangladesh Mathematical Olympiad.

The Jamal Nazrul Islam Memorial Winter School is a landmark event for Bangladesh, bringing together some of the brightest minds in theoretical physics to inspire and mentor young researchers and students. It represents a crucial step in building a strong foundation for cutting-edge science education and innovation in the country.

His commitment to advancing science in Bangladesh has inspired many, including Professor Majumdar, who also returned from the UK to work towards strengthening the country’s science and mathematics education.

Hosting world-class physicists and researchers at this school highlights Bangladesh’s potential to emerge as a leader in science and education within the Global South.
