Professor Mahbub Alam Majumdar, who is the Dean of the School of Data and Computational Sciences at BRAC University, called on Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus on Monday at the state guest house Jamuna.

He has recently been awarded the Spirit of Salam Award 2026 by the Abdus Salam International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP). This prestigious international award honors individuals who exemplify the values and legacy of Nobel Laureate Professor Abdus Salam through exceptional contributions to science, education, and capacity-building in the developing world.

"Standing on Our Own Feet"—The NOW Talks at Brac University brought together leading minds in science and economics to discuss developing home-grown research in the Global South. Dean of School of Data Science Professor Dr. Mahbub Majumdar highlighted the power of students, saying, “When we started doing the Maths Olympiad, people were skeptical about how much our students could do, but now we have a gold medal in the International Math Olympiad. We have proven that our students are at the same level as the top students in the world. We need to create more opportunities for them.”

They will be joined by Professor Jaya Mehta, who will share her experience on the role of activism and the need for workers' rights to be at the center of any development story, and Professor Mahbub Majumdar, Dean, School of Data and Sciences, BRAC University, who has a keen interest in black hole physics, string theory, and machine learning.

The conversation will be hosted by Sadaf Saaz, Member, Board of Trustees, BRAC University, who will engage the speakers in a dynamic discussion.
