Verbs
Different Types of verbs :
a) Finite Verb: বাক্য সম্পন্নকারী ক্রিয়া
যেমন:
I eat rice.
He reads a book.
I want a mango.
They work and work but cannot reach an end.
b) Non- Finite verb: যে সব verb বাক্যের অর্থ পূর্ণ করতে পারে না।
I want to read.
He wants to eat.
She came to invite me a dinner.
I do not want to see it.
I want a mango to serve him.
I saw him playing.

B
a) Principal Verb: নিজ নিজে সম্পূর্ণ অর্থ প্রকাশ করতে পারে।
I eat rice.
I am a girl / boy
He plays football.
Man cannot leave alone.

b) Auxiliary Verb: যে verb নিজে নিজে অর্থ সম্পূর্ণ করতে পারে না তাই Auxiliary verb.
I am eating rice.
I am having my dinner now.
He will play football.
We may go there. ( আমরা সেখানে গেলেও যেতে পারি)
They can do it.

C
a) Transitive verb: যে Verb এর Object থাকে।
[Causative verb, Reciprocal, Reflexive, factative etc.]
He eats mangoes.
We nake baskets.
Redowan gave me a pen.
He plays football.

Note: Verb কে 'কি' বা 'কাকে ' এই প্রশ্ন করলে যে উত্তর পাওয়া যায় তাই object.
He sings a song.
He writes a letter.

i) Reflexive verb: যখন কর্তা নিজের উপর কোন কাজ করে। এক্ষেত্রে Subject এবং object একই ব্যক্তি বা বস্তুকে নির্দেশ করে।
He killed himself.
She fsned herself and talked.
They enjoyed themselves at the picnic.
She absented herself from school.

ii) Reciprocal Verb:পারস্পারিক ক্রিয়া
যে Verb দুই বা ততোধিক ব্যক্তি বা বস্তুর মধ্যে পারস্পরিক সম্পর্ক বা কাজ বোঝায় তাকে Reciprocal verb বলে। যেমন:
Rima and shima helped each other.
The three boys hate one aother.
Good students teach one another.

iii)Factitive verb: যে verb এর একটি Object এবং একটি Object Complement থাকে।
We named him a name.
They elected him chairman.
The students made her class monitor.

Causative Verb: যে Verb এর Subject নিজে কাজ না করে অন্যকে দিয়ে করিয়ে নেয় তাকে Causative verb বা প্রযোজক ক্রিয়া বলে। যেমন: Make, Get, Have, Let, Help.

b) Intransitive verb : যে verb এর কোন object থাকে না তাকে বলে Intransitive verb.
He eats.
We make.
He goes there.
He plays. ★ Verbs having no objects.
The baby sleeps.
Babies cry.

Transitive Verb used Intransitively:
Will you see me tomorrow.

ADJECTIVE

1. He is a good boy. (গুণ)
2. His conduct is not bad.( দোষ)
3. Paper is thin. ( অবস্থা)
4. She wore a black dress.( ধরণ/ বৈশিষ্ট্য)
5. He is the first boy in the class.( ক্রম)
6. Go to the next door.( ক্রম)
7. She gave me much / a lot of money. ( পরিমাণ)
Definition : যে word দ্বারা Noun বা Pronoun এর দোষ, গুণ, অবস্থা, বৈশিষ্ট্য, ধরণ, সংখ্যা, পরিমান ইত্যাদি বুঝানো হয় তাই Adjective.

Adjective এর দুই প্রকার ব্যবহার:
a) Attributive use --------- Adjective + Noun এভাবে। যেমন----
He is a brilliant boy.
Adjective + Noun

b) Predicative use --------- Noun/ pronoun+ --- + Adjective
i)She is beautiful.
Pronoun + Adjective
Shaila is intelligent.
ii)Noun+ Adjective
Man is mortal.

Classes of Adjectives :
প্রধানত ৪ ( চার) প্রকার।
a) Adjective of quality ( গুণবাচক বিশেষণ)
b) Adjective of quantity ( পরিমাণবাচক বিশেষণ)
c) Adjective of number ( সংখ্যাবাচক বিশেষণ)
d) Pronominal Adjective ( সর্বনামোদ্ভূত বিশেষণ)

a) Adjective of quality: Noun বা Pronoun এর দোষ, গুণ, অবস্থা
She is a good girl.
Bithi is a beautiful girl.
The tiger is very strong.

I am weak today.
The crow looks ugly.
You are a bad boy

This is a horizontal line.( আনুভূমিক রেখা)
Bangladesh is a plain land.( সমতল ভূমি)

b) Adjective of quantity
সাধারণত material ও abstract Noun এর ক্ষেত্রে পরিমাণ নির্দেশ করে। যেমন :
No -- (কোন নয়) I have no pens.
None/ No one [ একটি ও না] Do you have any books of poetry?
No, I have none( no one).
Do you have any such dress?
No, I have none.

a little( সামান্য) --- There is a little milk in the glass.
Some ( কিছু) ---- Give me some salt / suger.
Half ( অর্ধেক) ----- Half a ( of a) loaf is better than no loaf.
All ( সমস্ত) --- The cat drank off all the milk.
Whole ( সমুদয়).... The whole class laughed out.
Much ( প্রচুর)----- I need much money to help the poor.

Enough/ sufficient ( পর্যাপ্ত, যথেষ্ট)
There is enough rain this year.
Babies need sufficient milk.

Numeral Adjective : তিন প্রকার
1. Ordinal: First, ( প্রথম), Second ( দ্বিতীয়), Third( তৃতীয়), Forth( চতুর্থ), fifth ( পঞ্চম).
2.Cardinal: One, two, three, four, five
3. Multiplicative: Single ( একক), Double ( দ্বিগুণ), two fold( দ্বিবিধ), Triple( তিনগুণ), treble/ three fold( ত্রিবিধ), Quadruple ( চারগুণ),
four fold( চতুর্বিধ), Fivefold (পাঁচগুণ).
এসবই হচ্ছে definite numeral adjective ( নির্দিষ্ট সংখ্যাবাচক ক্রম।
যেমন: I bought seven eggs. ( Cardinal)
Keep it in the second box. ( Ordinal)
She is my uncle's third child.( Ordinal)

Indefinite numeral adjective : অনির্দিষ্টতা জ্ঞাপক
সংখ্যাবাচক বিশেষণ।যেমন :
Some, all, enough, few, several, many, no.
এক্ষেত্রে,
Adjective + countable noun -- --- Numeral Adjective

All the boys were playing.
adj. + countable N ---- numeral adjective.

You will find it in many books.
adj. Count. N.

কিন্তু,
Adjective + Uncountable Noun ------ Quantitative Adjective

The cat drank off all the milk.
Adjective uncountable N.

Note: Definite Numeral Adjective গুলোকে পূর্বে
about ( প্রায়), nearly(প্রায়) Some ( মোটামুটি, সামান্য কম বা বেশি) বসিয়ে তাদেরকে Indefinite Numeral Adjective এ পরিনত করা যায়।
About all the boys were playing.
Adj. Count N.
They had some six cows.
Adj. Count N.

D. Pronominal Adjective : সর্বনামোদ্ভূত বিশেষণ
This book is mine.
That dig is mad.
This, That এখানে কোন Noun কে বিশেষভাবে চিহ্নিত করে দিচ্ছে। তাই এগুলি Adjective.

Classes of pronominal adjective :
a) Demonstrative Adjective
b) Distributive Adjective
c) Interrogative Adjective
d) Possessive Adjective
e) Relative Adjective

a) Demonstrative Adjective : Adjective + Noun
This------- I know this man.
That-------I saw that man yesterday.
These----- She bought these things.
Those----- Those frogs are croaking.[ ঘ্যাঙর ঘ্যাঙ করা]

b)Distributive Adjective :
Each
Every
Either + Noun
Neither

Example:
1. boy was present.
2.Every mother loves her child.
3.There are trees on either bank ( উভয় তীর) of the river.
4. There are two pens but neither pen will do.

কিন্তু Distributive Pronoun হলে Structure টি হবে নিম্নরুপ :
Each
Either + of + Noun( plural)
Neither

Examples :
1.Each of them went there.
2.Either of the two brothers has told.

Note: Every শুধু Adjective হিসেবে ব্যবহৃত হতে পারে, Pronoun হিসেবে নয়।
Each of them was present / Everyone of them was present.[ pronoun]

Interrogative Adjective :
What + Noun
Which
What colour do you like most?
Which man is your uncle?

কিন্তু Pronoun হলে Structure হবে নিম্নরুপ :
What do you want?
Which is better?
What, Which এখানে একাকী Verb এর আগে ব্যবহৃত হয়েছে।
Note: অনেকগুলোর মধ্যে একটিকে বেছে নিলে Which ব্যবহৃত হয়।
There are five pens here. Which do you want.

d) Possessive Adjective
my, our, his, her etc. + Noun
Examples:
This is my pen.
We love our country.

e) Relative Adjective
1.This is which book you gave me.
2. He gave me what shoe I wanted.
3. He gave me which pen I requested him for.( আমি যে কলমটির জন্য তাকে অনুরোধ করেছিলাম সে আমাকে সেটিই দিয়েছিল)।

আরও কয়েক প্রকার Adjective সম্পর্কে আলোচনা করা হলো:

Emphasizing Adjective:
Is this your own cat? ( নিজের)
He will come this very day.( ঠিক আজই)
I want this very pen.( এই কলমটিই)
Compound Adjective :
Out -of- date ( সেকেলে)
Two- month- long( দুই মাস ব্যপী)
Five year old ( পাঁচ বছর বয়সী)
This is an out of date mobile.
There will be a two month long training.
I need a five year old girl.

Proper Adjective :
He married an Amerian Lady.
He is an Italian boy.
America, Italy এই দুটি Proper Noun থেকে Adjective দুটো গঠিত হয়েছে বলে এগুলিকে Proper Adjective বলা হয়।
Note: Proper Adjective এর প্রথম অক্ষর সব সময় Capital Letter হয়।

★Reciprocal Pronoun (পরস্পর প্রতিক্রিয়াশীল সর্বনাম)
i)Each other....দুইজন পরস্পর বুঝালে
The two sisters help each other.
ii)One another.... দুই এর অধিক পরস্পর পরস্পরকে বুঝালে
The ten friends like each other.
More examples:
Rima and shima looked at each other.
Rima, Shima, Pranto , Shanto all love one another.

singular plural
This These..... নিকটবর্তী কোন কিছু বোঝাতে
That Those....দূরবর্তী কোন কিছু বোঝাতে
*কোথায় ব্যবহৃত হবে? Where to be used?
i) যদি পূর্ববর্তী কোন sentence বা clause এ দুটো noun থাকে, এবং পরে তাদের প্রত্যেকটিকে নির্দেশ করতে হয় তবে প্রথমটির জন্য this এবং পরেরটির জন্য That ব্যবহৃত হয়। যেমন--
Men and money are both needed; these( men) give us strength and that( money) gives us wealth.
ii) পূর্বে কোন Noun বা Clause ব্যবহৃত হলে তাকে নির্দেশ করার জন্য:
*He went to market on foot and this/ that made him tired.( this/ that means his going to market)
*This book is more costly than that( book).
iii) Emphasis বা জোড় প্রদান করার জন্য:
He went there on foot. ( সে পায়ে হেঁটে সেখানে গিয়েছিল)। কিন্তু
He went there and that on foot. ( সে সেখানে গিয়েছিল এবং রীতিমতো পায়ে হেঁটেই)।
They must repay the loan within two days.
(তাদেরকে দুদিনের মধ্যে ঋণ শোধ করতে হবে) কিন্তু
They must repay the loan and that within two days. ( তাদেরকে দুদিনের মধ্যেই ঋণ শোধ করতে হবে)।
*I requested much but he would not help me. I addressed him ad my brother and then he helped me.
জোর দিয়ে বললে,
I requested much but he would not help me. I addressed him as my brother and it was only then that he helped me. ( শুধু তখনই সে আমাকে সাহায্য করল)
* Then I understood the problem.
জোর দিয়ে বললে,
It was only then that I understood the problem.
( একমাত্র তখনই আমি সমস্যাটা বুঝলাম)।
* For this reason he couldn’t pass.
জোর দিয়ে বললে,
It is for this reason that he could not pass. ( এ কারণেই সে পাশ করতে পারেনি)

It is only then that.... একমাত্র তখনই
It is for this reason that....এ কারণেই
iv) একটি noun কে বারবার উলেখ না করার জন্য singular এ that এবং plural এ those ব্যবহৃত হয়।
* The rice of Barishal is finer than the rice of Khulna.
বাক্যটিকে এভাবে লিখতে পারি...
The rice of Barishal is finer than that of Khulna.
* The streets of Sirajgonj are not wider than the streets of Dhaka.
বাক্যটিকে এভাবে লেখা যেত...
The streets of Sirajgonj are not wider than that of Dhaka.
*The climate of Rajshahi is better than that of Dhaka.
* The buildings of New York are bigger than those of Dhaka.

Demonstrative pronoun হিসেবে বসলে তার আগে as বসে।
He was a doctor and we believed him to be as such.( তিনি একজন ডাক্তার এবং আমরা তাকে তাই ভেবেছিলাম।)
You are gentle people and should act as such.
( তোমরা ভদ্র এবং সেভাবেই তোমাদের আচরণ করা উচিত)

★ The same
Demonstrative pronoun হিসেবে বসলে তার পরে as বসে।

They did the same as we( did).
Raj will do the same as Nora( will do).

★So
Demonstrative pronoun হিসেবে বসতে পারে।
তখন সচরাচর এটি say, think, hope, desire, want, demand ইত্যাদি verb এর পরে বসে।
Charza: Will it rain?
Dola:I do not think so.

Charza: I take exercise every morning.
Razzo: So do I.

★Distributive pronoun
each
everybody
everyone
either........or
neither.....nor
যে pronoun অনেকগুলি ব্যক্তি বা বস্তু থেকে একটি ব্যক্তি বা বস্তুকে আলাদা করে বুঝায় তাকে Distributive pronoun বলে।
Each-- প্রত্যেক
Singular ব্যক্তি বা বস্তুকে বুঝায়।
Each of + noun/ pronoun ( plural) -------distributive pronoun

1.Each of them went there.
(তাদের প্রত্যেকেই সেখানে গিয়েছিল)।
All of them went there.
( তাদের সবাই সেখানে গিয়েছিল)।
2. Each of the students has applied for the football match.
3. Each of the men and women is bound to obey the law.
Either
এই pronoun টি....
* দুটি ব্যক্তি বা বস্তুর ক্ষেত্রে ব্যবহৃত হয়ে যে কোন একটিকে নির্দেশ করে।
* এরপর সবসময় Singular Verb বসে।
1. Either of the two boys is talent.
2.There are two pens; either is good.

* শুধু Either / Either subject হিসেবে কাজ করলে অথবা,
Neither/ Either + of+ plural noun /pronoun----pronoun

Neither of the two books is readable.
There are two pens here. Either is good... ............................................
Neither + Noun/pronoun + nor + noun/ pronoun

Either + noun/pronoun + or + noun/ pronoun.......................................................conjunction

1.Either this pen or that pen was bought from India.
2.Neither he nor his brother has done it.

Neither + noun
Either + noun......Adjective
There are two pens. Either pen will do.

★ Note: Either এবং Neither ব্যবহৃত হতে পারে শুধু দুইজন ব্যক্তি বা বস্তুর ক্ষেত্রে। তার বেশি হলে anyone/ none ব্যবহার করতে হয়।
I have three dogs; none of them is ferocious.
There are many people here; anyone of them can do it.
