On January 11, the Career Counselling Club of the Department of Information Science and Library Management (ISLM3C) at the University of Dhaka (DU) hosted a lecture titled “Studying at the University of Oxford: Myths, Realities, and Learning Experiences.”

The session featured Dr. Mustak Ibn Ayub, an Oxford DPhil alumnus and current DU faculty member, who provided roughly 45 students and faculty members with critical insights into higher education abroad.

Key Takeaways:

"Oxford of the East" Reality Check: Dr. Mustak noted that while the "Oxford of the East" label is historically accurate regarding DU’s administrative and residential structures, there remains a significant gap in the quality of research and education between the two institutions.

Admissions & Funding: The talk offered practical guidance on application processes, summer schools, and exchange programs, with a specific focus on scholarship opportunities available to students from developing countries.

The session was moderated by Dr. Md. Anwarul Islam, with welcome remarks provided by Department Chairman Dr. Md. Roknuzzaman and Advisor Dr. Md. Shiful Islam.

The event concluded with an interactive Q&A session and a presentation of a token of appreciation to the speaker.
