Looking back, I realize first year is more important than it feels in the moment.
The foundation you build there quietly shapes everything that comes after.

These 3 things made the biggest difference in my own journey:

CGPA — It opens doors, especially early in your career. Worth taking seriously from the start.
Networking — The people you meet in university can become your biggest support system.
Club Activities — Some of the most important lessons I learned happened outside the classroom.

I'm still a student myself, still learning every day.
But if sharing this helps even one person start their journey with a little more clarity — that's enough for me.
What do you think matters most in 1st year? I'd genuinely love to hear from you. 👇
And if this was helpful, feel free to share it with someone who just started their CSE journey.

I failed my first C++ lab task. Like, completely blanked. And I study CSE.

Nobody tells you that the first few weeks of programming feel genuinely terrible, even for students who chose this department. It's not just you.

After spending way too long being confused, I started figuring things out one small piece at a time. And somewhere along the way, I thought, why not just document this whole thing for anyone else who feels stuck?

So that's what I did. A full C++ basics playlist. Built as a student, for students (and honestly for anyone curious about coding).

Happy Pohela Boishakh, everyone! 🌸 New year energy hitting different this time.

If this sounds like something you or a friend needs — the playlist link is in the comments. Share it around, you never know who's quietly struggling with the same thing.

Also—what's the one programming concept that confused you the most when you started? Drop it below, genuinely curious. 👇

“Sir, as a CSE student, what kind of research paper can I work on based on what you shared today?”🤔
I asked Professor M. Saif Islam sir at the end of his incredible session on ""AI POWERED NANOSYSTEMS ON A CHIP FOR IMAGING AND SENSING: UNLOCKING NEW DIMENSIONS OF INSIGHT" at IEEE BUET Talk Series Episode-1.
Instead of replying directly, Professor M. Saif Islam smiled and showed an image: A mother holding her newborn baby. Next to it, just one word: "Depth." Then he said something that really touched me😊:
“Whatever field you're working in AI, nano, software, hardware, if you want to do meaningful research, you need depth. Just like a mother’s love for her child, your knowledge should have that kind of depth. With that kind of dedication, you can start from anywhere.”
That metaphor hit me hard. It wasn’t just about research — it was about mindset, purpose, and love for learning. Right then, the host of the event added something that made the moment even more special:
“Let me introduce her — she’s not from BUET. She’s actually from ULAB. We invited all IEEE student members.” Professor Saif sir turned to me and asked, “Oh! You’re really curious — how did you come here?" And I said, “Sir, I’m the Vice Chairperson of IEEE ULAB Student Branch and a member of IEEE. That’s how I got the opportunity to attend.”
And as I was the one from a different university at the event.
It felt truly special to represent ULAB in that space, connect with the amazing BUET IEEE executive team, and be part of a session that talked about the future of tech.
Of course, I couldn’t leave without a quick selfie with the honorable speaker! 😊
