As a part of the The “1st National Inter-School Biotechnology Quiz Competition”, the students of the Department of Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering at United International University, hosted a workshop on Molecular Biology and Microbiology and lab visit session inside our fully equipped labs.

More than fifty schools from across the country participated in the event, reflecting the growing interest of young students in biotechnology and scientific education.

St. Joseph Higher Secondary School, Dhaka emerged as the champion of the biotech quiz competition. The prize-giving ceremony was attended by renowned geneticist Dr. Abed Chowdhury as the chief guest. Our Departmental chairman Rafiq Sir and advisor of School of Life Science, UIU, Dr. Abdul Mazid sir was also present during the events.

This science-focused initiatives at the school level, is to inspire the next generation of researchers and innovators.

The “1st National Inter-School Biotechnology Quiz Competition” — the first-ever biotechnology quiz competition for school students in Bangladesh — was successfully hosted by the Department of Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering at United International University in collaboration with the Network of Young Biotechnologists Bangladesh (NYBB). More than fifty schools from across the country participated in the landmark event, reflecting the growing interest of young students in biotechnology and scientific education.

The day-long program featured laboratory workshops, interactive scientific sessions, and a multi-round national biotechnology quiz covering diverse areas of modern science including genetics, microbiology, bioinformatics, environmental science, and human physiology. St. Joseph Higher Secondary School, Dhaka emerged as the champion of the competition.

The prize-giving ceremony was attended by renowned geneticist Dr. Abed Chowdhury and Oncologist and Associate Professor from Dhaka University Dr. Mustak I Ayub, as the chief guest. Speakers at the event emphasized the future potential of biotechnology in Bangladesh and highlighted the importance of introducing science-focused initiatives at the school level to inspire the next generation of researchers and innovators.

Workshop on The Scientific Pen: Mastering the Art of Understanding and Presenting Scientific Articles

UIU Biotech Club presents a workshop on how to understand and present scientific articles with the help of Department of Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering, UIU. Understanding and presenting scientific articles is crucial because it empowers us to communicate complex ideas, advance research, and contribute to meaningful change. United International University Result-Based Scholarship

United International University (UIU) প্রতি trimester শেষে students দের academic performance অনুযায়ী Result-Based Scholarship (Merit Waiver) প্রদান করে। এটি purely merit-based system এবং কোনো application ছাড়াই automatic ভাবে দেয়া হয়।

1. Scholarship Structure (GPA Ranking Based)
Scholarship দেওয়া হয় batch ranking অনুযায়ী:

🥇 Top 2% Students
100% Tuition Fee Waiver
Required GPA: সাধারণত 4.00 (perfect performance)

🥈 Next 4% Students
50% Tuition Fee Waiver
Required GPA: সাধারণত 3.90 – 4.00

🥉 Next 4% Students
25% Tuition Fee Waiver
Required GPA: সাধারণত 3.50 – 3.90

Note: Exact GPA cut-off প্রতি trimester এ slightly change হতে পারে depending on competition level.

2. Minimum Eligibility Requirement
Scholarship consideration এর জন্য basic requirements:
•Minimum GPA: 3.50 or above
•Minimum 9 credits per trimester complete করতে হবে
•All courses must be graded (no incomplete status)
•Academic integrity maintain করতে হবে
•No disciplinary action থাকা যাবে না
- 3.50 এর নিচে GPA হলে scholarship ranking list এ consider করা হয় না।

3. Scholarship না পাওয়ার ক্ষেত্রে (Exclusion Criteria)
নিচের cases গুলোতে scholarship পাওয়া যাবে না:
❌ GPA Related
•GPA 3.50 এর নিচে হলে
•One or more course fail থাকলে
•Overall performance below merit threshold হলে

❌ Academic Issues
•Incomplete (I grade) courses থাকলে
•Retake/Improvement courses করলে (usually waiver apply হয় না)
•Irregular academic progress থাকলে

❌ Administrative / Conduct Issues
•Disciplinary action থাকলে
•Academic misconduct (cheating, plagiarism) proven হলে
•University rules violation থাকলে

❌ Enrollment Issues
•Minimum credit (9 credits) complete না করলে
•Withdrawn courses বেশি থাকলে

4. Selection Process
•প্রতি trimester final result publish হওয়ার পর ranking তৈরি করা হয়
•CGPA অনুযায়ী department-wise merit list তৈরি হয়
•Top 10% students scholarship zone এ আসে
•Equal GPA হলে credit load এবং consistency consider করা হয়
Next trimester tuition fee automatically adjust হয়

5. Reality Check (Competition Level)
•Top 10% students only scholarship পায়
•Top 2% (100% waiver) পাওয়া extremely competitive
•GPA 3.80+ রাখা strong scholarship chance তৈরি করে
Consistency না থাকলে rank maintain করা কঠিন

6. Scholarship পাওয়ার জন্য গুরুত্বপূর্ণ বিষয়:
•Regular class attendance
•Quiz + assignment timely submission
•Midterm এবং final exam strong preparation
•Lab performance consistent রাখা
•Full semester disciplined study routine maintain করা

7. Summary
UIU Result-Based Scholarship fully merit-based system যেখানে:
3.50–3.90 → 25% waiver
3.90–4.00 → 50% waiver
4.00 → 100% waiver
শুধুমাত্র consistent, high-performing students এই scholarship পায়। Academic discipline এবং continuous effort maintain করাই মূল key factor।
