Rule1: সাধারণত singular countable noun এর প্রথম letter consonant হলে তার পূর্বে a এবং vowel হলে an বসে। an egg, a book
Rule2: mute H এ A না বসে an হয়। an hour/honest man/heir কিন্তু a horse/house.তবে hotel/historian এর পূর্বে a/an উভয় বসে।
Rule3: u এবং E এর উচ্চারণ যদি YOU এর মত এবং O এর উচ্চারণ যদি ওয়া এর মত হয় তাহলে An না বসে A বসে। a university/unique case/union/European/ewe আবার a one take note, a one eyed man
Rule4: Abbreviation এর প্রথম letter vowel এর মত উচ্চারিত হলে an এবং Consonant এর মত উচ্চারিত হলে a বসে। an MP/SOS/X/MA আবার a BA/BSC
Rule5: তুলনা বুঝাতে proper noun এর পূর্বে a/an বসে। you are a Shakespeare.
Rule6: Singular common noun এর পূর্বে a/an বসে। A cow is a useful animal.
Rule7: unknown ব্যক্তির নাম বা পদবি এর পূর্বে a/an বসে। A Dr. Arif
Rule8: noun complement এর পূর্বে a/an বসে। he is an actor.
Rule9: Dozen, hundred, thousand, million ইত্যাদি এর পূর্বে a/an বসে। A dozen

Rule16: As, so, too, how + adjective তার পর noun থাকলে noun এর পূর্বে a/an বসে। so good an idea.
Rule17: countable ( singular/plural), uncountable noun নির্দিষ্ট করে বুঝালে এর পূর্বে the বসে। The girl/girls went there.
Rule18: সমগ্র জাতি বুঝাতে singular common noun এরপূর্বে the বসে। The cow is a useful animal.
Rule19: পূর্বে ব্যবহিত কোন noun এর পূর্বে the বসে।
Rule20: ordinal number ( first/1st, second/2nd) ইত্যাদি এর পূর্বে the বসে। the first
Rule21: Superlative Degree এর পূর্বে the বসে। he best boy
Rule22: যত তত বুঝাতে comparative Degree এর পূর্বে the বসে। the more we have, the more we want.
Rule23: the + adjective দ্বারা বিশেষ শ্রেণি বুঝানো হয়। The rich are not always happy.
Rule24: Possessive adjective (my, our, your, his, her, their, its) এর পরিবর্তে the বসে। Pull him by the ear.
Rule25: জাতির নামের পূর্বে এবং ভাষার নামের পর language কথাটি থাকলে এর পূর্বে the বসে। The English
Rule26: সমগ্র বস্তুর অংশ বুঝাতে adjective এর পূর্বে the বসে। We entered the thick of the forest.
Rule27: Earth, sun, moon, sky, west ( দিক), ধর্ম গ্রন্ত, প্রসিদ্দ গ্রন্ত, সংবাদ পত্র, জাহাজ, ট্রেন, বিমান, মহাকাশযান, নদী, উপসাগর, সাগর, পর্বতমালা, দ্বীপমালা, মরুভূমি, ভবন, বিখ্যাত ঘটনা, উল্লেখযোগ্য স্থান বা ভবনের নামের পূর্বে the বসে। The earth/Daily Star/Titanic/Quran/the Iliad.
Rule28: Adjective বা কোন adjective phrase/clause কোন proper noun কে modify করলে এর পূর্বে the বসে। Akbar the Great was an emperor of Delhi.
Rule29: comparative degree তে one of the two থাকলে তার পূর্বে the বসে। Tone is the brighter one of the two girls.
Rule30: বাদ্যযন্ত্র বাজালে তার পূর্বে the বসে। He plays the guitar.
Rule31: সমষ্টিবাচক নামের পূর্বে(the USA), বর্ণনা মূলক geographical অর্থ থাকলে কোন প্রদেশের নামের পূর্বে (the Punjab), common noun এবং adjective যদি abstract idea প্রকাশ করে তবে তার পূর্বে the বসে (The mother rose in her)
Rule32: যে সকল noun দ্বারা পেশা বুঝায় তার পূর্বে the বসে। the army/bar
Rule33: একই গুন বিশিষ্ট দুটি proper noun এর মধ্যে তুলনা বুঝাতে তার পূর্বে the বসে। Sylhet is the London of Bangladesh.
Rule34: Road এর নামের পূর্বে the বসে কিন্তু street বা avenue এর পূর্বে the বসেনা। The Syed Road but Manik Mia Avenue.
Rule35: সাধারণত material বা abstract noun এর পূর্বে article বসে না কিন্তু material/abstract noun কে নির্দিষ্ট করে বুঝালে তার পূর্বে the বসে। The milk of the mug is boiled. The kindness of my mother is known to all.

Tag question মূলত একটি বড় Sentence এর সাথে জুড়ে দেওয়া ছোট Sentence.
Tag question করার নিয়মঃ
1. প্রদত্ত Sentence এর পর comma (,)
2. Helping verb ( constracted from Negative)
3. Subject ( Pronoun)
4. Question mark (?)
Helping verb নির্ণয়ের নিয়ম
1. যদি প্রদত্ত Sentence টি Affirmative হয় তাহলে Tag এ helping verb এর Negative form এর contracted form হয়। যেমনঃ Am থাকলে aren’t/ain’t, is- isn’t, are- aren’t, was- wasn’t, were- weren’t, have- haven’t, has- hasn’t, had- hadn’t, shall- shan’t, will- won’t, can- can’t, should- shouldn’t, would- wouldn’t, could- couldn’t, may- mayn’t, might- mightn’t, must- mustn’t, dare- daren’t, need- needn’t, ought- oughtn’t, used to – didn’t, had better- hadn’t, would better- wouldn’t, had rather- hadn’t, would rather- wouldn’t.
Nota Bane: Am not এর contracted form aren’t বসানো ভালো কারণ ain’t হল am not, is not, are not, have not, has not এর contracted form.
AFFIRMATIVE CONTRACTED FORM OF VERB:
‘m=am,‘re=are, ‘s=is/has, ‘ve=have, ‘d=would/had, ‘ll=will
উপরোক্ত verb গুলো না থাকলে v1 থাকলে don’t , v+ s/es- doesn’t, v2- didn’t বসে।
2. প্রদত্ত sentence টি negative হলে tag এ Helping verb Affirmative হয়।
যেমনঃ Am not থাকলে am, is not – is, are not- are, was not- was, were not- were, have not- have, has not- has, had not- had, shall not- shall, will not- will, cannot- can, should not- should, would not- would, could not- could, may not- may, might not-might, must not- must, dare not- dare, need not- need, ought not to- ought, used not to- did, had better not- had, had rather not- had, would better not- would, would rather not- would, do not- do, does not- does, did not- did.
NEGATIVE CONTRACTED FORM OF VERB:
Doesn’t=does not, don’t=do not, didn’t=did not, ‘m not/ain’t=am not, isn’t/’s not=is not, aren’t/’re not=are not, haven’t/’ve not=have not, hasn’t/’s not=has not, won’t/’ll not=will not, shan’t=shall not, can’t=cannot, wouldn’t=would not, shouldn’t=should not, couldn’t=could not, mayn’t=may not, mightn’t=might not, mustn’t=must not, needn’t=need not.
Negative word: hardly, barely, scarcely, seldom, rarely, neither, never, nor, no one, none, nobody, nothing, no sooner, naught, no, until, till, lest, few, little, unless, too, bit.
Negative word কোন sentence এ থাকলে Tag এ Affirmative verb বসে।

I. প্রদত্ত Sentence টির Subject যদি Noun হয় তাহলে Tag এ Subject Pronoun হবে।

II. Sun, death, summer, winter, thunder, fire, time, anger এদের Pronoun হিসেবে He বসে।Time flies, doesn’t he?
III. Moon, earth, ship, car, country, hope, night, nature, autumn, late-autumn, spring, liberty এদের হিসেবে she বসে।Bangladesh is a small country, isn’t she?
IV. প্রদত্ত sentence এ subject there হলে tag এ subject there হয়।There are many rivers in our country, aren’t there?
V. Nothing, anything, something, everything থাকলে tag এ Subject it হয়।Nothing can satisfy him, can it?
VI. Nobody, none, anybody, anyone, everybody, everyone, somebody, someone থাকলে tag এ subject they হয়।Nobody believes him, do they?
VII. No, any, every, some এর পর male or female gender থাকলে gender অনুসারে pronoun বসে। Every mother loves her child, doesn’t she?
VIII. All of us, most of us, some of us, every one of us, none of us থাকলে subject We হয়।None of us attended in the meeting, did we?
IX. Either of them, neither of them, one of them থাকলে subject they হয়।one of them called me, didn’t they?
X. Either of you, neither of you, one of you থাকলে subject you হয়। one of you knew there, didn’t you?
XI. All of them, most of them, every one of them, some of them, none of them থাকলে tag এ subject they হয়।None of them could do it, could they?
XII. All of you, most of you, some of you, every one of you, none of you থাকলে tag এ subject you হয়।None of you should avoid it, should you?
XIII. Imperative sentence দ্বারা offer বা invitation বুঝালে tag এ won’t you বসে।Have a cup tea, won’t you?
XIV. Imperative sentence দ্বারা command বা request বুঝালে tag question এ will/can/can’t/could/would + you বসে। open the door, will you?
XV. Don’t /do not দ্বারা imperative sentenceটি গঠিত হলে tag question এ will you বসে। Don’t tell a lie, will you?
XVI. Let us/ let’s থাকলে shall we বসে। let’s go for a walk, shall we?
XVII. Let এর পর them, him, her, you, me অথবা noun থাকলে tag question এ will you হয়। Let him read the book, will you?
XVIII. Exclamatory sentence এ verb sentence এর শেষে থাকে এবং তার পূর্বে subject থাকে। What a beautiful garden it is, isn’t it?
XIX. Complex sentence এর principal clause এর subject verb দ্বারা tag question করতে হয়। If you phoned me, I would come to your house, wouldn’t I?
XX. Know, believe, hope, think এর পর যে clause থাকে তার tag করতে হয়। I know you can pass in the exam, can’t you?
