The University of Dhaka Geophysical Society (UDGS) Student Chapter held its annual executive meeting with the newly elected committee members for the 2025โ2026 term on October 31, 2025.
The meeting centered around an engaging introductory session for the new recruits, where members exchanged creative ideas for future initiatives. The Executive Committee also shared insights on upcoming projects and major chapter activities.
The session concluded with a spirit of unity, motivation, and commitment to continue striving for excellence in the year ahead.

The University of Dhaka Geophysical Society (UDGS), in collaboration with AAPG, SPE, EAGE, AWG, ISPRS SC, and IAEG Student Chapters, has successfully organized a highly engaging webinar titled โMachine Learning and Explainable-AI Frameworks for Data-Driven Model Development and Feature Selection: Insights into Reservoir Characterization and Geomechanics.โ
The session featured Dr. Mohammad Islam Miah, Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Rock Mechanics at the University of Saskatchewan, Canada. Dr. Miah holds a Ph.D. in Oil and Gas Engineering from Memorial University of Newfoundland, an M.Eng. in Petroleum Engineering from BUET, and a B.Sc. in Petroleum and Mining Engineering from SUST.
Held on 25 October 2025 via Zoom, the webinar provided valuable insights into the integration of machine learning and explainable AI frameworks in reservoir characterization and geomechanical studies. Participants gained a deeper understanding of how advanced data-driven approaches are shaping the future of geoscience and petroleum engineering.
A short quiz session was also organized at the end of the webinar, allowing participants to engage interactively and reinforce their understanding of the key concepts discussed.
UDGS extends sincere appreciation to Dr. Miah for his informative and inspiring presentation, and to all participants for contributing to the success of this event.

We are thrilled to announce the successful completion of the SEG Bridge Programme in collaboration with SEG Benchmarking and SEG Guest Lecture 3.0 on 21st September,2025 , jointly hosted by SEG ITB SC and University of Dhaka Geophysical Society. ๐๐
A special thanks to Dr. S.M. Maimul Kabir for delivering such an insightful lecture on Geophysical Data Acquisition for Resource Exploration. ๐ His session truly enriched our understanding and inspired us for the future.
The programme also featured engaging presentations from student chapter presidents, vibrant cultural exchanges between Bangladesh ๐ง๐ฉ and Indonesia ๐ฎ๐ฉ, and a fun-filled quiz competition that brought everyone together with joy and enthusiasm. ๐ถ๐๐

It was a pleasure to host an orientation session for the incoming 57th batch of the Department of Geology, University of Dhaka, organized by the University of Dhaka Geophysical Society (UDGS) โ the recognized student chapter of the Society of Exploration Geophysicists (SEG).
The session offered an engaging overview of UDGS's core values, strategic goals, and impactful activities, designed to introduce new students to the dynamic world of geophysics and the global SEG community.
We were truly inspired by the energy and curiosity of these budding geoscientists. UDGS remains committed to guiding and collaborating with them as they embark on their academic and professional journeys.
