Ever get a mystery headache or burning eyes after staring at your phone or laptop—even though you turned the brightness DOWN to "protect" your eyes? 📱💥

You aren't imagining it, and it isn’t just normal screen fatigue.

The hidden culprit is a technology called PWM (Pulse-Width Modulation). To control brightness, most modern screens (especially OLED flagships) don’t actually dim their backlights. Instead, they rapidly cycle fully "ON" and "OFF" hundreds or thousands of times a second.

The darker you make your screen, the longer those black gaps become. Your iris is constantly dilating and contracting to adapt to this invisible strobe light, putting your visual system into high-gear overdrive.

How can you tell if your screen is doing this? Try these two quick tests:
