আজ ১৬ ডিসেম্বর। মহান বিজয় দিবস। বাঙালি জাতির বীরত্বের এক অবিস্মরণীয় দিন। পৃথিবীর মানচিত্রে বাংলাদেশ নামে একটি স্বাধীন ভূখণ্ডের অস্তিত্ব প্রতিষ্ঠার চিরস্মরণীয় দিন।
৯ মাসের রক্তক্ষয়ী যুদ্ধ শেষে ১৯৭১ সালের এ দিনে বাঙালি জাতি স্বাধীনতা সংগ্রামের চূড়ান্ত বিজয় অর্জন করে। স্বাধীন বাংলাদেশের স্থপতি ও জাতির পিতা বঙ্গবন্ধু শেখ মুজিবুর রহমানের নেতৃত্বে মুক্তিযুদ্ধের পর ১৬ ডিসেম্বর বিকেলে তৎকালীন রেসকোর্স ময়দানে (বর্তমান সোহরাওয়ার্দী উদ্যান) বর্বর হানাদার বাহিনী আত্মসমর্পণ করে যৌথ বাহিনীর কাছে। এর মধ্য দিয়ে স্বাধীনতার রক্তিম সূর্যালোকে উদ্ভাসিত হয় স্বাধীন সার্বভৌম বাংলাদেশ।
