I: "I'm from London, though my family's originally Welsh, and we're both students at the United World College in Costa Rica. UWC, as a movement, is about bringing the world together through shared education, and creating a better future with peace and understanding. One of the core competancies is leadership, along with diversity, healthy lifestyle, sustainability and service. So the idea is, if you want to do, change or create something, you just do it. I joined student council having been in the school for just 2 weeks, and it's been great, we work with admin, we work with the directors to try and make the school the best place it can be. They let students have a really strong impact, and every week we do something called CAS - Creativity Action Service - where we go out into Costa Rica and try & do things for the people there."

J: "The school collects bright minds from all over the world, from all social layers, and gives them this chance to look ahead, to look beyond their own lives back home. We've both been there for a year. I often think it's as if you saw life in black & white before, and suddenly you see all the colours, so many more facets, and begin to understand. I come from a little village in Denmark and I've met people from villages and cities all over the world and been able to create deep, deep friendships. I think it's made me so much more open and ready to try and create this change that the world really needs."

UWC Bangladesh is accepting submissions for the Yearbook cover! If you'd like your work featured on the cover, email it to [email protected] or [email protected] by Tuesday, July 1st. Requirement: A4 size portrait. Could be a design, sketch, or photograph of and/or relating to the UWC movement. Cheers!
