Climate change, resource scarcity, and social inequity are reshaping development landscapes in Bangladesh and far beyond it and the solutions are being written now, by the people willing to do the work. CSIRF is looking for a Young Research and Policy Fellow who wants their early career to count for something: rigorous research, hands-on field study, policy work and advocacy that influences real decisions, and community engagement that keeps the work grounded in people's actual lives.

If you're curious, disciplined, and ready to trade a routine for a mix of research, writing, field study, and community work across Bangladesh and, as opportunities arise, on regional and international projects — this is your opening.

• A Bachelor's degree, any discipline, candidates from environment-related fields are especially encouraged.
• Interdisciplinary thinking. We value people who connect ideas across sectors, not just specialists in one lane.
• Strong writing skills, with the ability to turn complex research into clear reports, articles, and papers.
• Professionalism and reliability - courteous, disciplined, and consistent in meeting deadlines.
• Integrity - honesty and follow-through matter more to us than polish.
• A collaborative mindset - respect for team structure and a willingness to work within it.
• Adaptability - comfort with frequent travel, field study, and community-facing work in varied, sometimes challenging, settings within Bangladesh and, when opportunities arise, beyond.
• An interest in policy work and advocacy, translating research and field findings into recommendations that can actually influence practice, decision-making, and public dialogue.
• Comfort engaging directly with communities — listening, building trust, and working alongside the people our research is meant to serve, not just about them.
• A hands-on, outward-facing disposition — this role lives in the field and in front of people as much as behind a desk. We're looking for someone energized by conversation, movement, and real-world engagement, not just research in isolation.
• We’re not up for "nerdy" people — if you thrive purely behind desk-research, only lab based work, books and screens with little interest in people or the field, this role isn't the right fit.
Prior experience is a plus, not a requirement. We invest in training the right person.

𝗙𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗖𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘁𝘆𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗖𝗼𝗿𝗿𝗶𝗱𝗼𝗿𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗣𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿: 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗪𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻 𝗶𝗻 𝗖𝗼𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗕𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗹𝗮𝗱𝗲𝘀𝗵 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗥𝗲𝗱𝗲𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗖𝗹𝗶𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗔𝗱𝗮𝗽𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻!

In the coastal belt of Shyamnagar, the fight for water is also a fight for dignity, safety, and education. For years, the women of Datinakhali and Mundapara walked up to 5 kilometers daily for water, facing exhaustion, health crises and harassment along secluded paths.

But recently, something beautiful happened!

In a 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗧𝗮𝗹𝗸 at the courtyard, 35 women and girls mapped their pain and challenges, their time, and their risks. And then, they carried those maps directly into the offices of the local administration through 𝗟𝗼𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗣𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗰𝘆 𝗗𝗶𝗮𝗹𝗼𝗴𝘂𝗲. They looked the decision-makers in the eye and said, "𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗶𝘀 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆. 𝗡𝗼𝘄, 𝗳𝗶𝘅 𝗶𝘁."

Because of their courage, the local influential officials and representatives committed to lighting the dangerous paths, ensuring 50% women in water committees and tracking salinity-induced health crises.

The CSIRF at Daffodil International University, we are humbled to have facilitated this journey. We didn’t give them a voice, they already had one. We just helped them amplify it!

At CSIRF, our domain experts are leading the charge on the ground. They are being equipped with the deep cultural sensitivity, active listening skills, and adaptive problem-solving required to truly understand the communities we serve.

But training doesn't stop at the classroom door. CSIRF always believes that a solution is only as good as its resilience in the real world.

That is why we never just "roll out" an initiative. We ground-truth it.

In the coastal belt of Bangladesh, the climate crisis is not a distant threat, it is a daily reality. Severe water scarcity and extreme salinity are threatening livelihoods, and the burden falls heaviest on women and girls, who sacrifice their time, health, and education to secure safe drinking water.

At 𝐂𝐒𝐈𝐑𝐅, we believe that sustainable solutions cannot be imposed, they must be cultivated by the people who understand the context best.

That is why our approach to tackling coastal water issues is fiercely community-led and locally led. When development happens from the bottom up, communities don't just become beneficiaries, they become decision-makers, innovators, and leaders. In our participatory research, we are empowering local women, girls, youth and men to design and manage their own water solutions, directly addressing both salinity and deep-rooted gender inequalities.

Huge congratulations to our Lead, Khalid Md. Bahauddin, on securing the prestigious UNESCO Global Media Defence Fund for "Voices of Justice", a project that empowering environmental journalists in Bangladesh with training, peer networks, and an AI-powered safety tool.

Because defending the planet starts with defending those who tell its story especially the women on the frontlines. 🌱🛡️

Proud of this leap for CSIRF, DIU, and the future of environmental journalism.

Congratulations to Khalid Md. Bahauddin, Assistant Professor of Environmental Science and Disaster Management (ESDM) and Lead of the Center for Sustainable Innovation and Resilient Futures (CSIRF) at Daffodil International University, for receiving the prestigious Global Media Defence Fund (GMDF) by UNESCO HQ, Paris.

His project, “Voices of Justice,” aims to empower environmental journalists working on climate change, pollution, deforestation, and environmental justice through training, advocacy, peer support, and an innovative AI-powered support tool for journalists in Bangladesh. The initiative also emphasizes creating a safer and more inclusive environment for female environmental journalists.
This achievement reflects DIU’s commitment to innovation, sustainability, social impact, and supporting changemakers who work towards a more resilient and informed future.
