By: Muhammad Khalid Saifullah
Co-Founder & Vice Principal, Madrasah of Eternal Wisdom | Islamic Educator

---

Introduction

Qurbani (Udhiyyah), the act of sacrificing an animal in the path of Allah during Eid al-Adha, is among the most significant and beloved actions in Islam. It commemorates the unwavering submission of Prophet Ibrahim (peace be upon him) and serves as a practical lesson in obedience, sacrifice, and gratitude.

---

The Virtues of Qurbani

1. Beloved to Allah
The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said:
“There is nothing dearer to Allah during the days of Eid al-Adha than the sacrificing of animals.” (Tirmidhi)

2. A Sunnah of Ibrahim (AS)
Qurbani revives the Sunnah of Prophet Ibrahim (AS), who showed ultimate devotion to Allah by being ready to sacrifice his beloved son.

3. Every Hair Counts
The Prophet (peace be upon him) said:
“For every hair of the Qurbani animal, you receive a reward.” (Ibn Majah)

4. A Symbol of Gratitude
It is a way to thank Allah for the countless blessings and provisions He has granted us.

---

Basic Masaa’il (Rulings) of Qurbani

1. Who Must Perform Qurbani?

Qurbani is wajib (obligatory) upon every adult Muslim who is:

Sane,

Resident (not traveling),

Possesses the nisab amount of wealth (approx. equal to 612 grams of silver or its value in money) without basic needs.

2. Time for Qurbani

Qurbani can only be performed after the Eid prayer on the 10th of Dhul Hijjah until sunset of the 12th.

3. Animals Allowed

Goat, sheep – 1 Qurbani per person

Cow, buffalo, camel – can be shared by up to 7 people

4. Animal Conditions

Should be healthy and free from major defects (e.g., blind, extremely weak, lame).

Must have reached the minimum age:

Sheep/goat: 1 year

Cow/buffalo: 2 years

Camel: 5 years

5. How to Perform Qurbani

Face the Qiblah

Say Bismillah, Allahu Akbar

Use a sharp knife to minimize pain

Ensure the animal is treated kindly

6. Distribution of Meat

It is recommended to divide the meat into three parts:

One for oneself

One for relatives and friends

One for the poor and needy

---

Final Words

Qurbani is not just about sacrificing an animal; it's about sacrificing pride, wealth, and ego for the sake of Allah. May we all strive to perform this beautiful act with sincerity, love, and humility.

The Holy Qur'an is the divine book revealed by Allah (SWT) as guidance for all of humanity. It is not only a book of worship but also a complete code of life. Learning the Qur'an is one of the most honorable and rewarding deeds a Muslim can perform. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said, "The best among you are those who learn the Qur'an and teach it." (Bukhari)

1. A Source of Light and Guidance
The Qur'an illuminates the heart and mind of a believer. It leads a person from darkness to light and shows the straight path of truth, justice, and righteousness. Learning it brings inner peace and spiritual satisfaction.

2. Elevated Status in This Life and the Hereafter
Allah elevates the ranks of those who learn and act upon the Qur'an. On the Day of Judgment, the Qur'an will intercede for its reciter. Those who memorize it will be honored with crowns of light and garments of dignity.

3. Reward for Every Letter
Every letter recited from the Qur'an brings immense reward. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, “Whoever reads a letter from the Book of Allah, he will have a reward, and that reward will be multiplied by ten.” (Tirmidhi)

4. A Continuing Charity (Sadaqah Jariyah)
Teaching others the Qur'an creates a chain of continuous rewards. When a learner teaches others, the reward multiplies endlessly, even after death.

5. Protection from Misguidance and Evil
The Qur'an acts as a shield against the whispers of Shaytan and the evil of this world. It builds moral character and keeps the believer steadfast in faith.

Conclusion:
Learning the Qur'an is not only a religious obligation but a source of honor, peace, and success in both worlds. Every Muslim should strive to read, understand, and implement the teachings of the Qur'an in their daily life.

Surah Al-Mulk: Analytical Insights on Its Benefits in This World and the Hereafter

Introduction:
Surah Al-Mulk, the 67th chapter of the Qur’an, consists of 30 verses and is a profound revelation emphasizing the greatness of Allah’s Kingdom, the purpose of creation, and the reality of life and death. It offers immense benefits both in this worldly life and in the Hereafter. Its messages are not only spiritually uplifting but also contain reflections that align with scientific observations.

---

I. Spiritual and Worldly Benefits of Surah Al-Mulk

1. Protection from the Punishment of the Grave

Prophetic Assurance: The Prophet Muhammad (SAW) said that this Surah intercedes for the one who recites it regularly and protects them from the torment of the grave. (Tirmidhi, Hadith 2891)

Scientific Reflection: Contemplating mortality regularly, as this Surah encourages, increases mindfulness and decreases impulsive behaviors, supported by psychological studies on death-awareness.

2. Strengthening of Tawheed (Oneness of Allah)

The Surah opens with the declaration of Allah’s complete control over all creation, reinforcing faith in divine sovereignty.

Scientific Tie-in: Observing natural order and universal laws (like gravity, life cycles, or cosmic balance) aligns with the Surah’s call to reflect on the perfection of creation (verses 2–5).

3. Encourages Deep Thinking and Critical Observation

Verse 3-4 invites us to look at the sky again and again: "Do you see any flaws?"

Scientific Benefit: Promotes a mindset of inquiry and reflection, crucial in scientific research and personal development.

4. Cultivation of Gratitude and Humility

By reminding humans of their vulnerability (like not being able to control rain or prevent earthquakes), the Surah fosters humility and dependence on the Creator.

Health Benefit: Gratefulness has been linked to improved mental health and reduced stress, as shown in numerous psychological studies.

5. Prevention from Sin through Awareness of Accountability

Verses 6-11 vividly describe the fate of disbelievers, instilling a sense of responsibility and self-monitoring.

Practical Outcome: Individuals who internalize accountability (even spiritually) tend to lead more ethical and self-controlled lives.

---

II. Benefits in the Hereafter

1. Intercession on the Day of Judgment

Surah Al-Mulk will intercede for its reciters until they are forgiven. (Hadith - Ibn Majah 3786)

2. Elevation of Status in the Hereafter

Those who frequently recite and live by the message of this Surah are promised high ranks in the sight of Allah.

3. Light in the Darkness of the Grave

Regular recitation is said to provide spiritual light and comfort in the grave, symbolizing hope and protection during the first stage of the afterlife.

---

III. Scientific Reflections in Surah Al-Mulk

1. Cosmic Order and Precision (Verses 3–5)

“He who created the seven heavens one above another...”

Reflects the layered structure of the atmosphere and astronomical heavens, a concept aligned with modern astrophysics.

2. Birds in Flight (Verse 19)

Mentions the miracle of birds staying aloft without falling — prompting reflection on aerodynamics and divine design.

3. Water Management (Verse 30)

“Say, if your water were to disappear into the earth, who then can bring you flowing water?”

A reference to groundwater systems and modern-day concerns about water scarcity — an ecological and humanitarian issue.

Ibn Abbas (RA) said: One day, I was with the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and Khalid ibn al-Walid at the house of Maymuna (RA). Someone brought roasted Sandha/dabb to serve. The Prophet (PBUH) was about to eat it when a woman in the house said, “Let the Prophet know what he’s about to eat.”

So they told him, “O Messenger of Allah, it’s a Sandha” As soon as he heard that, the Prophet (PBUH) pulled his hand back. I (Ibn Abbas) asked, “Is it haram (forbidden)?”

The Prophet (PBUH) replied, “No, it’s not haram. But it’s not something we usually eat where I’m from, so I don’t feel like eating it.”
