🇲🇾 NEW: Fortify Rights urges Malaysia to coordinate with Thailand, Indonesia, and other Southeast Asian governments to urgently rescue Rohingya refugees missing at sea and ensure safe disembarkation for survivors.
21 bodies were recovered off Langkawi Island after a vessel carrying refugees sank near the Thai–Malaysia border on November 6.
“Ongoing and unmitigated abuses by the Myanmar junta and Arakan Army in Rakhine State, along with dire conditions in refugee camps in Bangladesh, are driving the Rohingya to risk their lives at sea,” said John Quinley, Director at Fortify Rights. “Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, and others must act urgently to save lives, provide protection, and ensure safe disembarkation in line with international law.”
