INTERVIEW WITH AN ELDERLY ROHINGYA ABOUT 25 AUGUST ROHINGYA GENOCIDE REMEMBRANCE DAY
Life Light Community Middle School conducted an interview with an elderly Rohingya to learn about his memories and experiences of 25 August 2017, a day remembered by Rohingya communities as Genocide Remembrance Day. The interview gives students an opportunity to listen to an elder’s firsthand memories, understand the importance of preserving history, and learn why remembrance, justice, dignity, and a peaceful future remain important to the Rohingya people.
We remember. We preserve our history. We educate the next generation. We will never forget.

25 August 2026 is observed by Rohingya communities around the world as Rohingya Genocide Remembrance Day. It marks nine years since 25 August 2017, when large-scale violence and military operations against Rohingya communities in Myanmar’s Rakhine State began, forcing more than 700,000 Rohingya to flee to Bangladesh.
