The Department of English of Britannia University successfully organized a webinar titled “Breaking Barriers: Overcoming Fear & Weakness in Spoken English” on Friday, 8th May, 2026 through the Zoom platform under the initiative of the English Language Club, in collaboration with English Carnival.

The webinar was arranged with the objective of encouraging students and language learners to overcome fear, hesitation, and weaknesses in spoken English and to develop confidence in communication skills essential for academic and professional success.

The program was graced by the honorable Chief Guest, Prof. Dr. Surajit Sarbabidya, whose inspiring remarks highly motivated the participants and appreciated the Department’s continuous efforts in organizing meaningful academic and skill-development activities.

The session featured Priyanka Prava Dey as the Guest Speaker. Through her insightful discussion and practical guidance on spoken English and IELTS preparation, she inspired the participants to communicate more confidently and effectively.
In the welcome speech, the Chairman of the Department of English highlighted that the Department of English of Britannia University remains committed to promoting academic excellence, communication skills, creativity, and global perspectives among students. Alongside regular academic activities, the department regularly arranges seminars, workshops, cultural programs, and interactive learning sessions to prepare students for the challenges of the modern world.

Teachers, students, and participants from different departments attended the webinar enthusiastically. The interactive session provided valuable learning experiences and encouraged learners to become more fluent, confident, and fearless in using English in both academic and professional fields.

The webinar concluded successfully with a vote of thanks delivered by Ms. Umme Rabeya Mili, who expressed gratitude to all the guests, organizers, and participants for making the program meaningful and impactful.

Shakespeare’s Birthday Celebration in the Department of English at Britannia University

The Department of English at Britannia University celebrated the birthday of William Shakespeare on April 23, 2026, with great enthusiasm and academic spirit. The program aimed to honor Shakespeare’s literary legacy and to engage students in meaningful academic and cultural activities.
As part of the celebration, students watched the cinematic adaptation of The Merchant of Venice. The screening allowed students to visually experience the depth of Shakespeare’s characters and themes such as justice, mercy, and revenge. The cinema presentation made the play more accessible and engaging for the audience.
In addition, a quiz competition based on the cinema of The Merchant of Venice was arranged. Students actively participated in the quiz, answering questions related to the film’s plot, characters, and key themes. This activity created an interactive learning environment and enhanced students’ understanding of the play through visual interpretation.
At the end of the program, the honorable Vice Chancellor distributed prizes among the winners, recognizing their talent and participation. His presence inspired the students and added dignity to the event.
Overall, the celebration was a successful and memorable occasion, reflecting the Department’s dedication to promoting literary appreciation and student involvement.

English Fest 2026 held in the Department of English at Britannia University

The Department of English of Britannia University organized a two-day program titled English Fest 2026 from April 22 to April 23, 2026, aiming to enhance students’ English language skills, creativity, and confidence. The event featured a variety of engaging activities, including Blogging, Picture Presentation, Poetry Recitation, Poster Presentation, Literary Quiz, and a Speech Competition, where students actively participated and showcased their talents in writing, speaking, and critical thinking. The fest created a vibrant academic atmosphere and encouraged students to express their ideas effectively in English. Prof. Dr. Surajit Sarbabidya, the honourable Vice Chancellor of Britannia University emphasized the importance of organizing such programs regularly in the department in future to enhance the skills of students and also distributed prizes among the winners of various competitions.

The programme was conducted by Abdulla Al Marof, Senior Lecturer, and Umme Rabeya Mili, Senior Lecturer, while Kiswar Zereen, Chairman (In-charge) of the Department of English, presided over the program and expressed heartfelt thanks to all participants and organizers for making the event a success. Overall, the program was highly successful in promoting language learning and fostering students’ confidence and interest in English literature.
