Today, Bangladesh says goodbye to a legend whose imagination shaped our childhood, inspired our creativity, and enriched our cultural identity.

Mustafa Monowar (1935–2026) was more than an artist, he was a storyteller, a visionary, a teacher, and the father of generations of unforgettable memories.

From the iconic puppet characters Parul, Bagha, and Mini to inspiring puppet theatre during the 1971 Liberation War, his work reminded us that art has the power to educate, unite, and give hope. His fearless voice for justice began in his youth during the Language Movement and continued throughout a lifetime dedicated to creativity and humanity.

As a painter, puppeteer, educator, television pioneer, and recipient of the Ekushey Padak (2004), he transformed Bangladesh's artistic landscape and inspired countless young artists to dream beyond boundaries.

Legends never truly leave us, they live on through the lives they touch and the art they leave behind. We honour your remarkable journey, celebrate your extraordinary legacy, and thank you for everything you gave to Bangladesh.

Rest in peace, Mustafa Monowar. Your art will continue to speak for generations.

A true visionary and a foundational figure in Bangladeshi art, Safiuddin Ahmed remains a pioneer of modern printmaking in South Asia. As a founder of the Dhaka Art College (now the Faculty of Fine Arts, University of Dhaka), his influence on generations of artists is immeasurable.

Whether through his precise wood engravings, atmospheric etching-aquatints, or evocative pastoral paintings, his work continues to resonate deeply. We honor the man who was both a dedicated teacher and a master painter, whose outstanding contributions to modern art earned him numerous national medals and a permanent place in our cultural history.

বাংলাদেশি শিল্পকলার একজন পথপ্রদর্শক এবং দক্ষিণ এশিয়ায় আধুনিক ছাপচিত্রের অগ্রদূত ছিলেন তিনি। ঢাকা আর্ট কলেজের (বর্তমান চারুকলা অনুষদ, ঢাকা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়) অন্যতম প্রতিষ্ঠাতা হিসেবে নতুন প্রজন্মের শিল্পী তৈরিতে তাঁর অবদান অবিস্মরণীয়।

নিখুঁত উড এনগ্রেভিং, এচিং-অ্যাকুয়াটিন্ট এবং গ্রামবাংলার রূপময় চিত্রকর্মের মাধ্যমে তিনি আমাদের শিল্পকলা জগতকে সমৃদ্ধ করেছেন। একজন নিবেদিতপ্রাণ চিত্রশিল্পী ও শিক্ষক হিসেবে তিনি অসংখ্য জাতীয় সম্মাননায় ভূষিত হয়েছেন এবং আধুনিক শিল্পকলায় রেখে গেছেন অসাধারণ সব সৃষ্টি।

আজকের এই বিশেষ দিনে শিল্পগুরুর অমর স্মৃতির প্রতি জানাই বিনম্র শ্রদ্ধা।
