And it is He who has subjected the sea for you..." (Surah An-Nahl, 14)
On August 23, the bulk carrier "MV Ocean Winner" sank in just 8 minutes in the Bay of Bengal, 240 miles off the Odisha coast. The disaster struck so fast that the crew had no time to use lifeboats or safety gear.
Working onboard as the Fourth Engineer was our brother, Engr. Abdullah Al Mamun. This was his first contract as a 4E, just days after returning from Umrah. He leaves behind an 8-year-old daughter, a 4-year-old son, and a devastated family. While joint rescue efforts have saved only two crew members so far, Engr. Mamun and the rest remain missing.
A seafarer’s salary is the heavy price of daily hazards and silent sacrifices fought miles away from home.
The ocean is vast and unforgiving, swallowing lives in seconds while leaving behind lifetimes of grief for those waiting on the shore.
O Almighty Allah, You hold power over the deep sea. Wherever our brother Engr. Abdullah Al Mamun is, let Your mercy reach him. Return him safe to his two little children and his heartbroken family. Grant them the strength to bear this profound storm. Amen. 🤲
