The Lab of Geoinformatics and Earth Observation Research (LGEOR) is an academic research laboratory operating under the Department of Geography and Environmental Studies, University of Chittagong. The laboratory is dedicated to advancing research and scholarly activities in the fields of Geoinformatics, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Remote Sensing, and Earth Observation. LGEOR facilitates

interdisciplinary research focused on environmental and spatial challenges, including land use and land cover dynamics, climate change impacts, disaster risk assessment, ecosystem analysis, and sustainable resource management. The laboratory supports rigorous spatial data analysis, geospatial modeling, field-based validation, and the development of high-quality cartographic and analytical outputs. In addition to research, LGEOR contributes to academic capacity building by supporting student research, technical training, and collaborative projects. Through scientific research, innovation, and institutional collaboration, LGEOR aims to promote evidence-based understanding of environmental processes and support informed decision-making at local, national, and global scales.

We are pleased to share a collaborative research book chapter led by our Lab Principal Investigator, Dr. Biswajit Nath, published in a Palgrave Macmillan & Springer Nature book.

This pioneering study is the first to focus on the transboundary section of the New Brahmaputra River channel using Chinese Gaofen-1/6 Wide Field of View (WFV) satellite sensors and geospatial techniques.
