Only awareness can keep future generations safe.

Excluding beams in earthquake-prone areas, it is very dangerous to design a flat slab building without using adequate shear walls.
The epicenter was reported below the Pacific Ocean floor, however; no tsunami alert was issued. The epicenter was reported below the Pacific Ocean floor, however; no tsunami alert was issued. Then the Mexico Code Committee decided to ban the flat slab. But it is prevented by many building builders and various construction professionals. 32 years later, in 2016, another 7.1 magnitude earthquake hit. The same thing happened - most of the buildings on the flat slab collapsed and many more died.
The Bangladesh National Building Code prohibits the use of flat slabs as part of lateral load resisting systems in areas where special moment frames are used in more earthquake prone areas.

This type of building is also happening in our country without adequate seismic detailing. Especially those buildings which are being constructed without the design of any registered structural engineer. Many building owners may be persuaded by a mason or someone else to save the design fee by building with a mason. The mechanics convince them - "Sir, I will give you a flat slab, there is no beam, I will look beautiful in the room".

Without proper architectural, structural, electromechanical and plumbing design, two things can happen if the building is constructed with masonry. The mechanic, due to his ignorance, may give more rods or other material than required. Which will increase the cost or reduce the ductility of the building. On the other hand, if you give less material somewhere, there will be a risk of collapse.

Do not build a vulnerable building in a natural disaster by spending all the money saved in this way.
