NEW: Two years after the Arakan Army, an ethnic armed group, killed and wounded hundreds of Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar’s Rakhine State and burned down their village, the survivors are still denied justice and cannot return to their homes.
The Myanmar military and Arakan Army should immediately end attacks on civilians, release anyone unlawfully detained, and provide redress to victims and their families.

Mohammed Ridowan — A Voice from the Heart of Suffering and a Lens That Documents Reality
By Dr.Lina Ahmed Dabba
Mohammed Ridowan, also known as “Ro Mohammed Ridowan,” is one of the emerging young figures from the Rohingya community who has combined humanitarian work, media documentation, and human rights advocacy. Through his efforts, he has become a voice that carries the suffering of his people to the world from within the refugee camps.
He was born in 1998 in Nat Chaung Village in Rakhine State, Myanmar, a region that has long experienced discrimination and statelessness. As violence against the Rohingya escalated, especially during the events of 2017, he was forced to flee his homeland and seek safety in Bangladesh, where he now lives in the refugee camps of Cox’s Bazar.
Since arriving in exile, Ridowan has not limited himself to the role of a refugee. Instead, he chose to become an active contributor within his community. Since 2017, he has worked as a community volunteer with several international organizations, including ACF, CAID, CARE Bangladesh, and IOM Bangladesh, mainly in site management and community support roles. These experiences gave him a deeper understanding of the urgent needs and daily challenges faced by displaced people.
Alongside his humanitarian work, Mohammed Ridowan has also emerged as a media contributor, working as a reporter, photographer, and translator with the Arakan News Agency (ANA). Through this role, he has helped document and share stories from the Rohingya community. Using simple tools such as his Android phone, he captures everyday life inside the camps, highlighting stories of pain, resilience, survival, and hope.
What defines Ridowan’s personality is his determination to transform suffering into purpose. For him, photography is not just documentation—it is a way of preserving the collective memory of his people and breaking the silence surrounding their struggles, including displacement, statelessness, limited opportunities, and the ongoing uncertainty about a safe future.
His media work reflects a strong belief that words and images can be powerful tools for change. Through social media and storytelling, he raises awareness, amplifies refugee voices, and calls for justice and accountability at the international level.
Despite the difficult conditions he lives in, Mohammed Ridowan continues his work with determination, emphasizing that the Rohingya issue is not just a temporary humanitarian crisis, but a long-standing human rights issue that requires a lasting and just solution.
In conclusion, Mohammed Ridowan represents a generation of Rohingya youth who transform pain into strength, exile into purpose, and silence into a voice that the world can hear.
