Waves for change is is a short course that aims to discuss and discover the topic of social movements in depth while giving people an authentic UWC experience. It is taking place in Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina from August 12 to August 22, 2016. The course will be carried through an experiential learning approach, that encourages learning through engagement, action and reflection, other than jus
t observation and lecturing. Activities and workshops will be delivered by a group of facilitators, but also, guest speakers and a range of local NGOs and social movements leaders. Those will include history, definitions, key terms and case studies regarding the topic, but will also be carried as an inspirational opportunity for both staff and participants to reflect on the situation in their local community and on their role as change makers, exchange experiences and ideas, coming up with their own conclusions regarding the topic. The course will encourage participants and staff to get out of their comfort zones and apply the skills and knowledge acquired during the 10 days through projects and actions in their local communities. There will be an opportunity to attempt and do this during the project day, in cooperation with the CASes in UWC Mostar. As an UWC in Mostar experience, there will also be various cultural activities that aim to develop self-awareness and respect to cultural differences and similarities, the diversity within the staff and participants is essential for us to engage with UWC values. There will also be opportunities for the group to explore Mostar and its surroundings, getting to see the flabbergasting natural beauty of the Balkans and the hospitality of the Bosnian people and engaging in some bonding time. Last but not least, the group will have the chance to stay in one of the college’s residence located right by old town and experience some of the residential life. Meanwhile, they will also explore their autonomy by being in an opened campus and organizing cooking and cleaning groups.
