What a wonderful start to the year we had today at our little school on the hill - and tomorrow when our Southies arrive our new playground is open for business!
Winnie took the final walk around today and gave it her smell of approval! 🤣

Welcome Back, Southies - it’s almost time to get your school uniforms out of the cupboards and our lunchboxes ready!

We hope you’ve all had a wonderful summer holiday! Term 1 for Victorian government schools recommences on Wednesday, 28 January 2026 for students in Grades 1–6. We’re excited to see our returning students ready for a great year ahead!

For our 2026 Preps, your first official day of school will be Thursday, 29 January 2026. We can’t wait to welcome our newest learners to the Southie family.

The last day of 2026 - it was a bit steamy, a little bit sticky, but also a little bit exciting. Can you follow the blue brick road??? Yes our playground is almost finished - and it looks amazing!

What a gorgeous morning we have had at our little school on the hill.

Thank you Collingwood Football Club and especially Lachy Schultz, Harvey Harrison and Brayden Maynard for coming to visit, answering some questions and playing a game of Chinese Walls with us!

We had such fun hearing about your favourite lollies, your memories at school, books you liked to read and what you do outside of football and Winnie loved getting to know you all!

Our Collingwood staff supporters Mrs Scholz & Miss Watson were also super happy as well! 🖤🤍🖤🤍

What happens when our a Southies go home? Ms L goes for an explore of the new playgrounds!! They are all in and they look so wonderful! Still a little work to be done, but how much fun will we have when it is all completed!

So much has been happening at our little school on the hill.
Our senior students have been expanding their horizons with some woodworking skills. We have also seen our gorgeous feathered ducks visit and a dress up day - of which Winnie enjoyed her costume in the sun!!
Our new playground is coming along in leaps and bounds. Today was Transition Day - we saw our new preps come to visit, check out our building site, the new playground and create a calendar for 2026 and to top it all off we have school swimming this week and a sneaky black and white team coming out to visit us this week - WOW!!

We have had some landscaping work completed out at our gorgeous school on the hill by the wonderful team atDunbar Road Landscape Suppliess Mitch and his team have worked tirelessly over the past week and have been so understanding and helpful. Today all our Southies staff and students left a mark in some fresh concrete - a core memory for all of us!
Even Winnie got in on the action! 🤣

What a great week of learning we have had at our little school on the hill. Our Southies have been in the kitchen with Miss Watson making rice paper rolls, the Senior students have finished a unit on Storm Boy and enjoyed watching the movie together. The Junior students have welcomed our Ready Set Southies for 2026 for a number of sessions and enjoyed some delicious acknowledgements in their classrooms.
We have also said goodbye to our old playground - 2 amazing new playgrounds are coming soon and we are all so excited! Watch this space!!!
Also our resident ducks come to visit us - we love them! 🥰

The senior students made cob loaves in our Patch 2 Plate session on Monday with Broccoli from harvested from our garden! Each student followed the recipe and then enjoyed the cheesy goodness altogether.

I spy with 3 preps and some broccoli, cauliflower, lettuce, snow peas, dutch carrots, beetroot, celery, apple flowers, plums, nectarines, chickens and a teacher in our Southie garden! What can you spy?

Our garden at Yinnar South Primary School is absolutely thriving with the recent weather, even if us humans aren’t enjoying it quite as much! The combination of rain and sunshine has helped our plants flourish, and this term we were excited to pick our first batch of produce. A big thank you goes to Barb from Bunnings Morwell for generously providing us with seedlings, which have played a huge role in the success of our garden so far. Our students have taken great pride in helping to maintain the garden through planting, weeding, and watering, and it’s been wonderful to see their hard work come to life.
