Fire Safety at ELOR! πŸ”₯
This week, we practised our scheduled fire drills as part of our regular three monthly safety procedures. 🧯🚨

Our children and staff safely evacuated the building and made their way to our designated meeting point, where we completed a roll call. We then came back inside for a group discussion about why we practise fire drills and what we need to do in an emergency. We were also very fortunate to have a parent from the NSW Rural Fire Service conduct one of our fire drills alongside our WHS Officer. This provided a wonderful opportunity for the children and staff to learn from someone with valuable real-world experience in fire safety and emergency procedures. πŸ‘©β€πŸš’πŸ”₯

These drills are an important part of keeping everyone safe and helping children become familiar with the steps to take if an emergency ever occurs. It was wonderful to see the children engage, listen, ask questions and participate so positively. ❀️

Alongside our fire safety learning, the children enjoyed a week full of engaging activities, exploration and learning experiences. 🌟

🌱🌸 Our Community Garden is Growing! 🌸🌱

We are so proud of how all 6 rooms at our centre have been working together to create and care for our beautiful community garden! πŸ’š

Everyone has had so much fun painting and decorating pots, planting new plants and learning how to care for them. From watering them every day πŸŒΏπŸ’§ to adding some special touches with our gnomes πŸ§™β€β™‚οΈ and fairies πŸ§šβ€β™€οΈ, the garden has become a wonderful project for everyone to enjoy.

It has been so exciting watching our plants grow, and we can’t wait to add even more special items to our garden and see just how big and beautiful our plants become! 🌻🌱 It has truly been a team effort form the whole centre and families and we are so proud of what we are creating together as a whole centre! πŸ’•πŸŒˆ

πŸ“šA Special Visit to Our Kookaburras Room! πŸ“š Our Kookaburras had a wonderful visit from the Yass Library Van! πŸšπŸ“–

Today we walked up to the car park, where the children had the exciting opportunity to explore the library van and choose some books to bring back to our room.

Once back in the Kookaburras room, we enjoyed looking through and reading our new books during rest time. πŸ“šπŸ’›

We are looking forward to reading all the wonderful books during our storytelling sessions. There will be lots of adventures, stories and learning to enjoy together! πŸŒŸπŸ“–

A big thank you to the Yass Library for bringing the joy of books to us today!πŸ’•

Today, the Platypus Children took part in an eyesight screen testing experience! πŸ‘“πŸ‘€

We were delighted to welcome Carleene from Step 4, who visited the centre for the children’s eye screening. The children had lots of fun testing their eyesight using coloured glasses.

The learning didn't stop there! Inspired by the screen testing, the children created their own eye screening station in the room and eagerly took turns testing themselves and their friends. It was a fantastic hands on learning experience that encouraged curiosity, role play, and an understanding of the importance of looking after our eyes. 🌈✨

πŸŒΏπŸ’™ Today we welcomed Marcayla for a wonderful cultural learning experience exploring this month’s theme, β€œWater is Life.” πŸ’™πŸŒΏ

The session began with the children proudly sharing their Acknowledgement of Country, showing respect for the Traditional Custodians and the land on which we learn and play.

We then gathered for a yarning circle to explore what rivers, creeks and waterways mean to First Nations people - not only as places that provide water, food and shelter, but as places of deep cultural, spiritual and community connection that have sustained Aboriginal people for thousands of years. Together, we reflected on why these special places deserve our care and respect.

Together, the children created a river in our tuff trays using water, leaves, bugs and recycled materials. πŸƒπŸžβ™»οΈ Working as a team, they helped clean the river, learning that we all have a responsibility to care for our waterways and protect the plants and animals that depend on them. πŸ’™

The children also enjoyed listening to the story of Dyirri the Frog, which inspired rich conversations about rivers, waterholes and the importance of caring for Country. Afterwards, each child created their own story on canvas using symbols and artwork to share their ideas. πŸŽ¨πŸ–ŒοΈ It was wonderful to hear many of the children include Dyirri in their own unique stories. πŸ’š

Through storytelling, sensory play and art, the children explored how every person can help look after our rivers and creeks, because when we care for Country, Country cares for us.

πŸ’› A big thank you to Marcayla for sharing culture, stories and knowledge with our preschool community. 🌿✨

Our two Preschool classes had an amazing time on their special excursion to the Train Museum this week! πŸš‚βœ¨

The children loved exploring inside the old trains, taking part in a fun treasure hunt, ringing the train bell, searching for Thomas the Tank Engine, and discovering the old buses and trains. One of the highlights was sitting inside a second class train carriage and imagining what it would have been like to travel by train many years ago.

It was a fantastic hands on learning experience where the children learnt so much about the history of trains and transport. Their curiosity, excitement, and enthusiasm made the day extra special, and we created lots of wonderful memories together! β€οΈπŸš‰

Thank you to Yass Railway Museum for having us πŸ˜„

🍽️ Mealtimes at ELOR are about so much more than eating! They are opportunities for children to develop independence, responsibility, confidence, and life skills every single day.

Each child has their own personalised placemat featuring their name and photo, allowing them to confidently set up their own dining space. Children take pride in setting the table with a table cloth, their placemat, bowl, cutlery, cup, and water jug before serving themselves nutritious meals using tongs made by our onsite centre chef.

Through these daily routines, children learn valuable self help skills, including serving appropriate portions, pouring their own water, making choices about their food, and practising good table manners.

After mealtime, the learning continues! Children scrape their plates, wash their dishes ready for the chef, and work together to care for their environment by sweeping and helping to clean the dining area.

These experiences foster independence, fine motor skills, responsibility and confidence. We are incredibly proud of how capable and engaged our children are as they take ownership of their mealtime routines.

🌟 Building life skills one meal at a time! 🌟
