Today, one of the most precious moments happened. A little girl in grade 4, who is shy and so incredibly gentle, finally finished her paper mosaic artwork. She came to me, with tears in her eyes, showing me her finished masterpiece and told me how proud she was. I sent her to show our amazing school principal who sung her praises to the high hills and then I called home to tell her parents what an incredible job she has done in art.
I hope this gorgeous girl always remembers the pride she felt and the pride her art teacher feels for her too!

Today was the last art day for Term 3 and it was spent racing to finish up our projects. Here are some year 3 pieces where students created a background inspired by the Pointilism movement and then created a contrasting cityscape using black fine tip marker. These gorgeous artworks have taken students approximately 4 weeks to finish. They are really strengthening their persistence and eye for detail this term.

My little grade 1 artists created these cute artworks over many weeks. They first explored flowers and drew their own using oil pastels. They then painted their flowers with watercolour paint. Here they experimented with the 'bleeding' technique. When dry these flowers were cut out for use later. Students then researched Joan Miro and looked at his mosaic artworks. They then used their fine motor skills to rip up newspaper and glue onto coloured card. Using Edicol Dye, they dripped colour onto parts of their newspaper mosaic. When dry, their flowers were glued onto cut up cardboard and then glued onto their mosaic background to give a 3D look. A big and long process for these little artists!

My amazing grade 3 and 4 students have been working extremely hard to create their paper mosaic artworks, inspired by the work of Joan Miro' and with the theme of fruit and vegetables. We are finally getting some finished masterpieces to feast our eyes on!

Today we had a special event on at school to celebrate Book Week. It's called Secret Teacher and all teachers in our school took a different class to what they usually have, to surprise the kids, and share their favour book with them. I was lucky enough to be with a gorgeous kinder class, who I've never taught. I shared with them The Paperbag Princess book and then we created our own paperbag princes or princesses. It was a very quick lesson but boy these turned out cute!

Our next project started this last week which my Yr 4s and 5s are really excited about. We studied the Surrealist artist, Joan Miro and his amazing mosaic artworks. From here, I introduced the concept of 'still life art' and then showed examples of where still life and mosaicing are integrated. My students are using these as inspiration to create their own still life mosaic of fruit or vegetables using paint colour sample charts (thanks to Bunnings). Their focus involves colour shades and tones, shape and spacial awareness. This is going to be a challenge that my big kids will smash through! I can't wait to see their final results!

More beautiful watercolour paintings were finalised today, by my year 5 class. The camera really doesn't do these gorgeous creations justice.

To begin Term 3, my students will be exploring watercolours and nature. Here are some progress photos of years 3 to 4. We studied images of flowers and students used these as inspiration to draw their own flower using oil pastels. They were told that each petal needed at least 3 colours of watercolour paint. These are some of the results thus far. A super cute start!

After an amazing school holiday break, our first family holiday in three years, then finally having Covid catch up with me, I returned to school for term 3 to find these gorgeous artworks up on display in our school front office foyer. To say they made my day was an understatement.
