AN INVITE + THANK YOU
Thank you to the large group of locals who spent a solid day taking part in the Equip Workshop. The community spirit, wisdom, experience and ideas shared were inspiring. While the research team have left town, the work of our Local Input Group and Community Connectors continues on the ground. They’ll be meeting next week to start reviewing the ideas from the workshop and looking at how we form an action plan for the future including how we might collaborate with local partners and what our next community event looks like. The goal as always will be helping our community prepare for natural disasters through community connection combined with physical and mental preparedness - for the whole of postcode 6286. We’ve talked a lot about the importance of the support Equip has received from existing local groups and stakeholders. One of those is the Witchcliffe Community Association. A dedicated group of passionate volunteers who work tirelessly to support and contribute to this unique place and community we all love. If you’re interested in their work, or being a part of it, we encourage you to join their next meeting. See what it’s about, and if you like become a member for just $3.

Thanks,

WHAT IS EQUIP? Witchcliffe and surrounds (postcode 6286) is one of nine Australian communities selected to take part in the 5 year Equip program and research study. Equip's goal is helping rural communities prepare for natural disasters by strengthening mental fitness, wellbeing, disaster readiness and community connection.

HOW TO PARTICIPATE The program centres around a community workshop (weekend in 2026 to be announced) and follow up surveys with all workshop participants until 2029. Participants will be given a gift card each time they complete a survey. There’ll also be numerous local community events and an action plan for lasting solutions.

THE TEAM Funded by the Medical Research Future Fund, Equip is led by the University of New England (NSW), with the WA team at Curtin University. They’re supported on the ground in Witchcliffe by two Community Connectors, a local input group, the Shire of Augusta Margaret River, MindEd, Witchcliffe Volunteer Fire Brigade and Witchcliffe Community Association. These local support networks will help provide local insight to the national research team, ensuring the program's relevancy and lasting impact for the community.
