Storytelling is knowledge being handed down from generation to generation. Sharing truth, imparting wisdom and revelation into the next generations. Teaching them to listen and look, to practice it and apply it everyday in their walk and talk. Story tells us who we are and where we belong, it gives us identity.

Our 8-week English units of work are based on The Last Daughter book written by Aunty Brenda Matthews, Co-Founder and Director of Learning Circle. Brenda draws on her personal journey to create a powerful narrative that shows a way forward for all Australians.

The combined experience of the book and accompanying units, guides students through an immersive journey, allowing them to find connection to their own stories while delving into Brenda’s story and gaining a deeper understanding and appreciation of Indigenous culture and history. Through the power of storytelling, this experience seamlessly integrates with curriculum objectives, enriching students' learning outcomes.

If you would like to read Brenda’s book, please head to: https://www.brendamatthews.com.au/book

*Important to note, prior to the commencement of the unit of work, schools will need to deal directly with their book supplier/wholesaler to purchase The Last Daughter books by Brenda Matthews.

A quote by All Saints Anglican School Headmaster, Patrick Wallas, who we are honoured to have such a beautiful relationship with.

“It is a constant challenge in schools to find authentic, meaningful and engaging resources that successfully open the hearts and minds of our students regarding the history and ongoing struggles faced by our First Nations people in an inclusive and respectful way.

Here at All Saints Anglican School we have been privileged to share a part of the journey of Brenda Matthews as she courageously embarked on a healing journey that was both intensely personal and representative of the collective trauma undergone by so many of our First Nations people. I challenge anyone to read Brenda’s book, ‘The Last Daughter’ without shedding a tear.

A group of committed teachers and Brenda have spent many years developing as impressive a suite of resources as I have encountered to accompany and enhance the teaching of the text in schools. Together the book and these resources offer such an effective learning tool for our students and I recommend them to you without reservation.”

Who is Learning Circle?

We’re united by a story that's not just on paper, but woven into our lives. Our team, Mark Matthews, Brenda Matthews, Amy Matthews, and Kiara Matthews, share a unique bond that goes beyond business.

We work collaboratively between Indigenous and non-Indigenous individuals, under the Waya Gilahna Cultural Framework. Brenda, Mingaan to her story and accomplished author of "The Last Daughter," brings her profound insights and cultural knowledge to the resources. Mark, Galbuman to Brenda and The Last Daughter, and Director of Learning Circle, passionately brings his cultural understanding and connection to story and to the team. Amy and Kiara, Mingaan in education, are both qualified educators, who infuse their teaching expertise and cultural understanding into every resource created.
Our team also consists of cultural advisors who provide their wisdom and knowledge into every area of Learning Circle.

We look forward to connecting with you.
