At Groove Connections we are passionate about creating a safe & encouraging student/teacher connection 👍🏻

At the start of all of our lessons we check in with students to see how their day has been -
How was their day at school/work? What’s something that you are grateful for today?
This IS NOT time wasting, it’s creating a safe space and developing a positive connection, which we see time again positively supports our students musical & personal growth. It’s also a great way to encourage mindfulness.

We try to develop our lessons based on the interests and passions of our students - working WITH them, rather than making them fit into a specific “box” for learning.

Connection, kindness, flexibility & a hefty dose of fun really help our students to not only develop their musical skills, but develop a love of music 🎶

We can debate curriculum, screen time, standards, all of it. But none of it matters if a kid doesn't feel liked by the adult teaching them.

Rita Pierson said this in her TED talk and it's stuck with early childhood educators ever since, because it's true at every age — but it's foundational at this one.

A three-year-old doesn't care about your lesson plan. They care whether you're glad they're there.

Relationship isn't the soft part of the job. It's the whole job.

Good for adults, too! 😊

Put them in a music ensemble.
Want them to listen to each other?
Put them in a music ensemble.
Want them to learn the importance of personal responsibility?
Put them in a music ensemble.
Want them to connect?
Put them in a music ensemble.”
