On International Midwives Day, we are filled with gratitude for the privilege of being midwives. This profession is not just a job. We have the incredible opportunity to witness the miracle of birth every day. We are there to support and empower individuals as they bring new life into the world, and provide comfort and care during some of the most challenging and vulnerable moments of their lives.
Being a midwife is about more than delivering babies - it is about building relationships, offering guidance, and being a source of strength and support for families as they navigate the journey of pregnancy, childbirth, and early parenthood.
We feel honoured for the trust that families place in us to provide them with education in preparation for their labour, birth & postnatal journey. A small but important part of a families journey to parenthood.
Happy International Midwives Day to our fellow midwives - may we continue to serve with love, empathy, and unwavering dedication 💜

Feeling those pre-labour jitters and butterflies? Here are some great ways to ease those nerves and feel empowered for labour and birth:
1️⃣ Immerse yourself in the power of positive birth stories and surround yourself with uplifting experiences shared by other mums who’ve triumphed through labour
2️⃣ Seek evidence-based information that aligns with your goals and desires. Knowledge is the key to navigating this experience with confidence
3️⃣ Sign up for labour and birth classes where you and your support person can gain invaluable skills together. Learn how to support each other during labour and create a strong birthing team
4️⃣ Together with your partner, write a birth map that reflects your preferences and what’s important to you during labour. Remember, birth is a unique and personal experience, so make sure your wishes are known and understood by your care providers
5️⃣ Prioritise self-care and prepare your body for labour with the help of a local physiotherapist, osteopath, or masseuse. Relax those muscles, release tension, and nurture yourself physically in preparation for the incredible journey ahead
Remember, you are stronger than you know, and you’ve got a whole community cheering you on 💪🏻

🌟 Labor & Birth Tip 🌟
Did you know that increased fear during labour can actually make contractions feel more painful? 😱
When you're feeling fearful and tense, it can intensify the sensation of your contractions. This is because the hormone adrenaline is higher when we're in a fearful state, blocking our friend oxytocin from doing it's thing.
But don't worry, there are methods you can use to break this cycle:
1️⃣ Practice relaxation techniques like deep breathing, visualisation, or guided physical relaxation to help you stay calm and release tension.
2️⃣ Stay informed and educated about the labour process. Knowing what to expect can help alleviate fear and anxiety.
3️⃣ Surround yourself with a supportive birth team who can provide encouragement and reassurance during labour.
Remember, you've got this! Stay positive and focused, and trust in your body's natural ability to birth your baby. ❤️

Greetings, we are Court and Mel, two devoted midwives residing and practicing locally. Belly to Bub has long been a cherished aspiration of ours. Our endeavour evolved from our experience as midwives, driven by our shared desire to ensure that every woman experiences a fulfilling and positive labor and birth process.
As mothers ourselves, we have also recognised a significant gap in the support and education offered during the transition to parenthood. We firmly believe in the empowerment that knowledge provides. By offering education and support, we aim to equip parents with the necessary information to make informed decisions, pose relevant questions, and maintain realistic expectations.
We eagerly anticipate meeting those of you who are interested in joining us to delve deeper into the incredible journey ahead as you embark on parenthood.

Wondering what important topics we actually cover in our conversations around labour, birth & postpartum?
Belly to Bub classes are a relaxed environment with open conversations and discussion welcomed. No icebreakers or group activities, we promise!
Instead we will focus on educating and empowering you and your support person to build up the trust you have in your body. We want to increase your knowledge, which will boost your confidence overall resulting in you being in the best position to make informed decisions!
At the end of the sessions, whether that be completed in our one day course or split across three Wednesday nights, you and your birth partner will hopefully be feeling much more excited than fearful about your upcoming transition to parenthood & the journey to get there 👶🏼
