2025 graduates, Sunny Lappin and Ava Usher are making their debut for the Suns in the AFLW on Saturday night against the Bulldogs. Although it will be televised on Kayo Sports, students, staff and parents are encouraged to come and watch them live at People's First Stadium. Hillcrest will be sending up a support team for the girls, and we will be meeting out the front of the ticket box at 6:30pm on Saturday night. Ticket cost is $15- per adult, kids are free. We would love to see as many people supporting our girls.

FLAG FOOTBALL: This weekend Hillcrest had 4 teams competing in the inaugural Gold Coast Bowl held at Greenheart in Robina. Competing against established clubs who play regularly in both flag and tackle, all teams had a quick learning curve and improved greatly. Two of our teams, the under 12s and u15s mixed came away as tournament champions. Thank you to Coach Carlos for organising the tournament and preparing the teams and to Coaches Cliff and Mr Suter for coaching the teams on the two days. Photos can be viewed on Pixevety.

VOLLEYBALL: We had a massive 3 days of volleyball for our Year 11 boys and girls' teams. Competing in the Volleyball QLD Senior Schools Cup at Coomera and Runaway Bay, they both competed well and became stronger as the tournament progressed. Our boys were playing some of the best teams in QLD in Div 1 and our girls, after an undefeated day 1, finished in fourth place in division 2. Thank you to all players for representing our college in such a positive and competitive way. Also, a big thank you to Coaches Carly and Mr Bryant Reid for their guidance during the tournament and the past 12 months to prepare the teams. Photos can be viewed on Pixevety.

Vicki Wilson Netball 2026
On Wednesday the 10th of June our school netball teams competed in the Vicki Wilson Cup Tournament. Despite the weather, our students demonstrated outstanding skill, determination, teamwork.

Results:
Shield Development (Junior Team)– Finished 2nd in their pool and then went on to secure 3rd place overall.
Cup Development (Senior Team)– achieved a 3rd overall

These results are a testament to the hard work, commitment and sportsmanship shown by all our players and coaches. Looking forward to seeing our Junior Netball team compete at the National All Schools Challenge in September for the first time.

AFL: Today, it was our Year 5 and 6s turn to represent Hillcrest in the AFLQ Primary Schools Cup. On a soggy field, our boys were amazing. Playing for the first time as a combine 5/6 team, they were too strong for all of our opponents, only having 1 goal kicked against them in the 4 games. Coach Matt Lappin was very happy with the effort, sportsmanship and skill level of the team. Well done boys. Photos can be viewed in Pixevety.

BASKETBALL: Congratulations to our senior girls, 2026 Champions of The Big 6 Basketball. We got away to a great start against St James, but were challenged in the 2nd quarter, before a couple of 3-pointers in the 3rd quarter gave us a lead that we maintained for the remainder of the match. Well done Coach Bec, and well done girls.

Good luck to our senior girls in the Big 6 Grand Final tomorrow. 10:30am start at Somerset College.

CRICKET: International cricket came to Hillcrest this week. Our boys took on the Vidya Mandir Society Schools from India in a fun game of indoor cricket. Both teams showed skill with both bat and ball. After scores were even at the end of regulation time, Hillcrest took a wicket with the bonus final two balls to get the win by 5 runs. Thank you to Mr Marks for umpiring and well done all players and spectators.

BASKETBALL and NETBALL: Hillcrest hosted Belgrave Heights Christian School this week. The school, all the way from Victoria, are on their first Gold Coast tour. They played against our year 9/10 boys in basketball and a combination of our year 8-11 girls in netball. Our girls won a physical game by 13, and in front of an enthusiastic lunchtime crowd, the boys came behind to win by 2. Afterwards, the 4 teams joined each other for a shared lunch.
