The release of the Global Carbon Budget 2022 shows global emissions set to increase instead of decrease. Australia must play a stronger role in cutting greenhouse emissions by taking responsibility for all the GHG emissions to which we contribute, especially through the export of coal and gas.

“The emissions from Australian coal and gas exports are more than a 1,000 MtCO2-e – double our total domestic emissions making us a major contributor to climate change."

The Global Carbon Budget (2022), produced by the Global Carbon Project, shows global fossil CO2 emissions are projected to rise by 1.0% in 2022.

If current emissions levels persist, there is a 50% chance that warming of 1.5°C will be exceeded by the end of the decade.

“We need to face up to the cold hard reality that Australia is one of the world’s largest suppliers of cheap tax-payer subsidised fossil fuels – and therefore we are a major contributor to climate change." says Professor Jeremy Moss UNSW.

“Fossil fuel exporting companies and countries seem to think that their emissions responsibility stops at national borders, not with the overall liveability of the global climate” - read more about exports emissions in our latest article via the link in our bio 🔥

- NEW ARTICLE - Though they espouse carbon reduction, many global powers and fossil corporations take no responsibility for the emissions of the fossil fuels they export - if we want to keep warming well below 2 degrees, this needs to change. Head to the link in our bio to read about why current international conventions for emissions accounting are letting big polluters fall through the cracks
