Assisting Parents to turn Obstacles into Opportunities :-)

01/11/2021

It's not always as easy as we would like to follow our heart, especially when it comes to our children, but you have to do what we feel is right.

We deal with many professionals that have trained in their expertise but we will always be the one to know our children best. They are one person amongst many asking you to do things, often failing to realise that could leave us with numerous tasks on top of what we are already struggling to do.

It took some time but many years ago I learnt that by doing what I felt was best, is what gave me the best outcomes. It allowed me to adjust things within our home to create the success we wanted to gain with our son. No it hasn't happen overnight it's actually an ongoing process that we still struggle with daily.

A process that we continue to work on, simply due to us already reaping the rewards from seeds that we have sewn over the years. With little things big things grow into greater things, and no matter what giving up never achieves anything. What does, is adjusting your goals and the steps you take to get there.

It's no easy road, which is why I share what I do as I have been to hell and back over these past 15 years with our young man but I still stand tall and proud of him as I know all that we have done and been through to get him to where he is today. An amazing young many who has a love for painting and continues to grow daily.

May each and everyone of you find it within yourself today, even if you are struggling to find just one positive in your day today, tomorrow and the next day. Slowly you will see things begin to grow and change all due to just one small thing that you have done for you and your children.

Now go and enjoy your day and reward you for the amazing human that you are and the amazing job that you do to keep things going. xx

Let's all share the love that exists deep within each one of us !

Imagine how different the world would be if we all loved each other for the individuals that we are. Imagine if race, religion, sexuality and disability were seen as part of everyday society. Imagine if we were all seen for being as unique as our fingerprint and the way we present is a chance for everyone to be teachable and learn how we can all turn obstacles into opportunities...

Imagine how different the world would be if we all loved, respected, honoured and showed compassion for each other, rather than showing fear, hatred, shame and judgement...

Imagine how blessed we would all be no matter what part of the globe you may be living in. Imagine how amazing life would be for each and everyone of us. Imagine the value that would be gained if we all took time to share our love with others every day of the year knowing this could change someones life...

I know for me things would look very different and today I would love us all to share the love we have from within to create greater acceptance and inclusion of all beings during 2021 🙂

in the Amat Household...

Miracles do happen. Our young man is computer mad and spends a lot of time creating videos and watching videos on his. Saturday arvo it was playing up and wouldn't load.

In years gone by this would of been a meltdown situation that included no negotiation of any kind. This time we tried to fix things with no success and he has been very calm.

Today it meant taking his computer to the IT guy and we were unsure of how he would go but low and behold he has been fine with me leaving with it and not returning with it.

It's been a huge step for him and truly shows how far he has come to only get vocal with frustration of the sitation rather than having a meltdown when its something we cant control.

Fingers x his mood remains this way 'til his computer returns, so we can keep some of our sanity otherwise it may become rather stressful times in the Amat Household...

in the Amat Household !

Welcome to the Autism Roller Coaster Ride that has so many highs, lows, twists, turns and sudden stops that impact us daily. It's not a ride that many would choose but one that we have been blessed with, having children diagnosed with Autism.

I always remember saying to people stop the world I want to get off until one day I really thought about it and realised to be honest I don't think I would really want to be on the outside looking in. At that time our sons life was just about a continuous meltdown and if it wasn't he was always in overdrive. He had two buttons flat out or stop and stopping never lasted long. Sleep for me was a fallacy, it was just a bonus if I got it and he was unpredictable. What you expected him to cope with he wouldn't and what you thought he wouldn't cope with he would.

We were in a world of obstacles and I will be honest I did not see any opportunities but hung onto hope that they would come one day. In the meantime what I did know is that when I sat back and looked at my life it did not look any better from the outside and if I did stop the world and get off I may have never wanted to return, so on stayed on the ride. A ride that has taken me places I never thought were possible. A ride that has taught me things I didn't know and a ride that has shown me that you can overcome your greatest struggles when you feel all may be lost...

It's a ride I would not wish on any one, but I would not change it either, as this ride has helped shape the person I am today. This journey our son has taken me on has provided so much more than anyone could imagine and it began with me believing that things were possible. It began with me looking beyond the situation to see the potential. It began with me realising that our boy was unique in his own way and it was up to me to find a way to overcome the obstacles we were greeted with each day...

Now if you are still questioning how on earth is this possible, I am sitting here today, it is purely because I wanted our son to be loved, to be given opportunities and to be able to interact with us in his own way and this has been achieved along with so much more and I would love for you to do the same. You have to trust within it is possible otherwise you will never embrace change.

Know there will be times you will have to hold on for your life as this journey is definately not for the faint hearted and takes patience, persistence, determination and endurance to reach the next phase of your journey, especially when the obstacles you face are presented by those that are not at the heart of what you are doing but are meant to helping to ease the load. Finding the strength to push forward is not always easy, but you can if you believe your child is worthy of what you are needing to assist them.

Never underestimate the strength you have, no matter how much you may want to run away or feel like you are alone, as sometimes the greatest achievement is knowing you got through the day as exhausted as you may be.

Hugs to all travelling this journey !
