There have been so many midlife women joining our workshops who think they are ‘just tired’. Yet often they discover an invisible relationship load. Not just tasks. Emotional labour. After a while it shows up as snappy, flat, quietly irritated, outbursts or switched off. Thats often a signal that your needs have been postponed too long. A powerful shift in Relationship Renewal is learning to name what you’ve been carrying… without shame…and without turning it into more ‘work’ for yourself. Two reflections for today. ‘What have you been carrying that isn’t yours?’ ‘What is one small change you can make today to lighten your emotional load?’
For most of the world it’s nearly Valentine’s day while here in Oz it’s today! And Valentine’s Day can feel anywhere between feeling loved or hurting if you are someone who longs for a loving relationship with a significant other…how you feel today depends on many things. 🌟whether you are in a functional relationship, 🌟what stage your relationship is in or 🌟whether you are longing to find a loving relationship with a significant other. Rather than ignore any hurt feelings theres a two step process you can try backed by neuroscience. 1. Lean into the feeling and sit with it ( try not to suppress it 2. Then go ‘under’ the feeling by asking that wise inner you ‘ what inner need is asking for attention here ?’ Ironically attending to our emotional needs expands our capacity to connect with another we love or could love 🧡

So many midlife women think they are ‘just tired’. Clients and workshop participants have often discovered when they slowed down that there was an invisible ‘relationship load’. Not just tasks…but emotional labour. Being responsible for the emotional comfort of others, whether at work, in the family or somewhere else. After a while ‘emotional labour’ shows up as feeling snappy, flat, outbursts, quietly irritated or switched off. They are often signals that your needs have been postponed for way too long and its time for a new approach. Time to name what you carry. Time to do so without shame, and without turning it into more work for yourself. A reflection for today…What have you been carrying thats not yours?
