Congratulations to all competitors that represented Timboon P-12 School in the Regional Athletics last Thursday. Well done to students that placed: Aysha Hollick (Long jump 2nd, Triple jump 3rd), Imogen Woods (Discus 2nd), Lukas Hrebenyuk (400m 2nd), Alby Jones (1500m 1st), Brenna Redshaw (Javelin 2nd) and Ellysa Mutton (Javelin 1st). We wish Alby and Elyssa good luck when they compete in the State Championships on Friday.

Help Wanted for a Load of Bull!

Our Year 9/10 Visual Arts class are creating a focal piece for a workshop at TAP’s On! on 12th November called BALE TO BULL, From Farm Waste to Community Art.

The students are creating a large scale bull sculpture that they are going to transform by using agricultural by-products donated by our local farming community including bale twine, wool, hay, feed bags, egg cartons, gum boots, milk packaging, seed bags, found objects, dairy rubberwear etc for students, families and the wider community to weave, wrap, knot, layer and attach at our TAP's On! curriculum expo.

We welcome clean farm by-products or used small scale pieces of equipment so that the finished bull becomes a real representation of our local farming community.

We won’t just making an artwork about agriculture, we are literally making the artwork FROM agriculture. If you can help in any way, please drop your goods off at the school office. With thanks, Gail Higgins (Pics for inspiration)

Just kidding!

Our Year 9/10 AgHort are investigating a variety of agribusiness models and were hosted by 3rd generation dairy farmers, Steph, Chris and Michael Vogels who welcomed them to their goat and cow facilities as part of the Cooriemungle Ag Unit Trust - Vogels Farms operation.

Beginning in the kidding shed, Steph outlined the goat dairy operation where 1,000 goats are milked in one dairy with goat milk produced year round and the collected twice weekly to supply an Infant Formula Company in Melbourne. The goat operation, now in it’s 6th year, was established as a means to diversify the business and spread risk whilst utilizing existing resources, infrastructure and staff.

At the main dairy farm, Chris explained that the dairy farm had been running for 60+ years from one block of land and dairy started by Frank and Dorothy Vogels, (Chris Vogels’ senior’s parents) and now milked approximately 4,000 cows with 45 staff across 5 dairies in Cooriemungle, Princetown and Simpson. The ‘Big Farm’ site is the operational hub with a 100 cow rotary dairy, calving facilities and the feed station where cow / goat rations are mixed and stored in silos, feed bunkers and several large silage pits to ensure the best possible feeding regime for their stock.

At the retro fitted goat dairy, Michael introduced students to the Saanen, Toggenburg and British Alpine milking does who produce approximately 3.5lt daily and are milked 3 times a day in a rapid exit herringbone dairy. Students jumped at the chance to interact with the kids and goats and were even fortunate to be a part of the milking process, with several students interested in working with the goats in the future.

It’s that time of the year again – a celebration of our TAP learning and community partnerships!

We would like to invite you to attend TAP's On! 2026, our interactive, peer led demonstration of what we have accomplished this year in the Timboon Agriculture Project (TAP).

On Thursday November 12th, TAP's On! will showcase how Timboon P-12 staff and students are integrating agriculture and community into the curriculum to support learning outcomes across our campus. Students in Years Prep - 10 from Timboon P-12 School and visiting students from Simpson Primary School will be rotating through peer-led activities based on the work undertaken in the classroom. From 10.00am to 1.25pm, students will be rotating through a series of workshops, almost like ‘speed dating’ on agriculture!

Experts or mentors are invited to assist the presenting students from Years 5-10 in their peer-led workshops for our expo. Students will demonstrate what they have learned or will learn in the classroom, covering such diverse topics such as; Smokin hot!, Fibre detectives, digital technologies, goat cheese, Halter, paddock to plate, holiday maths, sustainable horticulture, CSI Timboon, The Story of a River, ag-based art, Destination dairy, plant buddies, The Connies, water bugs, parkrun maths, career options, STEM activities and more!

We are partnering with the Fissics Education team for a focus on agritech, physics and science, and they will enthrall, educate and entertain students and guests with agrotechnology innovations including robotics, digital technologies, gyroscopes, drones, liquid nitrogen and electrostatics. Fissics Ed are passionate about creating hands-on, engaging, memorable interactive STEM experiences to inspire genuine curiosity in their audiences about STEM.

Visitors are also invited to stay for Fissics Education showcase, ‘Science that explodes’ at lunchtime between 1.25-2.25pm.

Students, ex-students, parents, members of the public, local businesses, industry representatives and educators are invited to join Timboon P-12 staff, students and industry contributors to observe and celebrate some of the remarkable initiatives the TAP has enabled.

Since the TAP began in mid-2012, we have had over 860 industry personnel and community members provide either direct curriculum content to students or provide PD for teachers. Celebrating creative talent at the Corangamite Youth Showcase

Timboon P-12 was proudly represented at this year’s Corangamite Youth Showcase, a vibrant celebration of the creativity, imagination, and talent of young people aged 12–25 from across the district.

Held at the historic Theatre Royal Camperdown on Sunday 20 September, the Showcase transformed the venue into a dynamic celebration of art, music, and performance, providing young creatives with an opportunity to share their ideas, talents and unique art works with the wider community.

Our students displayed an exciting and diverse collection of artworks from painting and drawing to sculpture and mixed media, the exhibition was filled with colour, texture, experimentation, and imaginative ideas. Together, the collection created a wonderful show case of creativity and highlighted the remarkable artistic talent emerging from our local schools.

It was particularly wonderful to see so many Timboon P-12 families and members of our community attending the event, celebrating the achievements of our students, and enjoying an afternoon filled with creativity, performance, and connection.

Congratulations to all our talented Timboon P-12 students who participated. Your creativity and willingness to share your art works and music made our school community incredibly proud.

Did you get your copy?

Thanks to a successful application for a Gardiner Foundation Community Development Grant facilitated by South West Community Foundation, we are delighted to announce that we have published extra copies of our ‘Timboon Tales; Celebrating 150 Years’ collection of narratives after selling out our initial print run.

Our application included upgrades for our School Kitchen Garden and an extension of this wonderful opportunity to create a time capsule of stories as part of Gardiner’s focus on place-based initiatives that foster social connection, wellbeing, digital inclusion and support of people in Victoria’s dairying regions.

Copies of the book are available for $20.00 from the Timboon P-12 School office, the Timboon Library and the Heytesbury and District Historical Society. Postal can be arranged by contacting the school to arrange payment for the book and postage.

Mt Leura and Mt Noorat field trip

​To conclude their studies of Natural Disasters and learn how volcanoes have helped create our region, the Year 5/6 students undertook a field trip to climb Mt Leura and Mt Noorat.

The day was facilitated by members of the Mt Leura Committee of Management and the Friends of Mt Leura who hosted students at the Mt Leura Information Centre. Graham Arkinstall explained that Mt Leura was part of large volcanic complex known as Leura Maar that was formed 10,000-40,000 years ago.

Graham invited students to join him in a time travel experience in the Tardis and described the way the landscape around the information centre had evolved over time. Students learnt that the site was once part of an inland ocean and over 35,000 years ago megafauna once roamed the landscape across the volcanic plains. Fred Paton, the Reserves Officer at Mt Leura, took the students on a walk into the maar crater and they could see the volcanic features in the area.

At Mt Noorat students learnt about local author of “I can jump puddles”, Alan Marshall, and they explored the crater and surrounds. From the crest of both Mt Leura and Mt Noorat students could observe the fertile soils that have contributed much to the agricultural enterprises in our region and compare different sorts of rocks, plants and land formations in the landscape.
