There is a misconception that you need to be 'behind' or 'failing' in a subject to benefit from tutoring.

Firstly, and most importantly, at Connect Tutoring no student is deemed to be 'behind' or 'failing.' We look a student's growth rather than grading and judging them against benchmarks and standards.

We also look to boosting their confidence before looking at academics. Confidence is important to how a student feels and this will impact their learning.

If you feel your child would benefit from tutoring feel free to call Samantha on 0413 594 175.

A ๐•ก๐• ๐•ค๐•š๐•ฅ๐•š๐•ง๐•– ๐•ž๐•š๐•Ÿ๐••๐•ค๐•–๐•ฅ is important for children to develop. It helps improve their determination and confidence.

So how can you help your child if they don't have a positive mind set?

Here are some tips which may help:

*๐”น๐•– ๐•”๐•’๐•ฃ๐•–๐•—๐•ฆ๐• ๐• ๐•— ๐•ช๐• ๐•ฆ๐•ฃ ๐• ๐•จ๐•Ÿ ๐•ค๐•–๐•๐•— ๐•ฅ๐•’๐•๐•œ: Speaking positively about learning (even the areas you didn't particularly like yourself) is important. "I hated maths when I was your age," or "I was never good at maths and I'm fine" isn't going to help instill positive feelings towards maths. Try to speak positively about all areas of learning. Even if you have to leave certain bits out.

*๐”ผ๐•Ÿ๐•”๐• ๐•ฆ๐•ฃ๐•’๐•˜๐•– ๐•ก๐• ๐•ค๐•š๐•ฅ๐•š๐•ง๐•– ๐•ค๐•–๐•๐•— ๐•ฅ๐•’๐•๐•œ: Often children will look at themselves in comparison to others- sometimes looking to older children or even adults as their comparisons. Encourage them to see themselves as writers even from a young age. Just because they aren't writing novels doesn't mean they aren't writers. Remind them that professional authors and older children were once beginners. I also find the word "YET" very powerful. If a child says, "I can't read that book," encourage them to add on the word YET... "I can't read that book YET." It implies that while they may not be able to do it right now, there will be a time when they can.

*โ„™๐•ฃ๐•’๐•š๐•ค๐•– ๐•ฅ๐•™๐•–๐•š๐•ฃ ๐•–๐•—๐•—๐• ๐•ฃ๐•ฅ๐•ค: If your child is results driven try to focus their attention on their efforts in something rather than the final result. This doesn't mean that you need to whip up a participation award for everything they don't get the results they wanted in. It may be a chat or a comment about about how proud you are of them to have entered the competition, or run in the race. It might be a discussion of an athlete who took three attempts at Olympic gold before they won gold.

*๐•„๐•’๐•œ๐•– ๐•๐•–๐•’๐•ฃ๐•Ÿ๐•š๐•Ÿ๐•˜ ๐•—๐•ฆ๐•Ÿ: Children often dislike learning because they aren't enjoying it because it is hard. Their dislike of a subject often vanishes when their competency increases. Incorporating some games which will help improve their skills will help their overall confidence.

There are many ways we can help our kids feel more confident about themselves.

What are some of the strategies you use to help your children?
