The Council’s main role is to enhance the effectiveness of NSW public secondary school principals through advocacy, support, professional learning, and collegial networks.

🎉 Celebrating 20 Years of Dedication 🎉

Today we proudly acknowledge and congratulate Amber Flohm on 20 years of outstanding contribution to the NSW Teachers Federation, its members, and public education.
Amber has served as a Senior Officer since 2020, following many years of impactful work as an organiser and multicultural officer. Her teaching experience across southwestern Sydney, intensive English centres, and a secondary college for languages as an EAL/D Spanish teacher reflects her unwavering commitment to equity, inclusion, and public education.
It has been an absolute privilege to work alongside Amber, and we thank her for the passion, leadership, and dedication she has given over two decades.

It was a privilege to celebrate an extraordinary milestone: 50 years of service to NSW public education. Dr Susan Wyatt, who began teaching in 1973, has dedicated her career to student achievement and leadership across several schools, culminating at Mosman High School. Narelle Vazquez, who commenced teaching in 1975, has provided decades of outstanding leadership and creative vision, now leading Northmead Creative and Performing Arts High School. Their 50 years of service reflect a true life’s calling, and we honour their remarkable contributions and lasting legacy.

Two scholarship recipients, Jenny Linklater and James Witchard, are undertaking intensive reflective supervision workshops with Professor Geoff Broughton at Canberra College. These experiences will strengthen their leadership practice and support our organisation’s commitment to principal wellbeing, reflective practice, and leadership vitality. In parallel, ACL and headspace are developing a new wellbeing initiative for 2026, reflecting a shared system-wide response to the pressures facing school leaders.

As the holidays approach, I encourage you to fully disconnect, avoid school talk, limit social media, prioritise physical and emotional wellbeing and be gentle as you reflect on the year that has passed. Celebrate what you’ve achieved: 2025 has been enormous - and approach 2026 with clarity and care.

Today, on World Teachers’ Day, we pause to honour the incredible work of educators across our public schools. Teaching requires patience in complexity, humour in challenge and belief in the power of education to change lives. Every day, in classrooms across NSW public schools, teachers light the spark of learning, foster curiosity, and shape the lives of young people in ways that reach far beyond the school gates.

Our SPC members lead communities of learning with courage, wisdom, and heart. Every day, you create the conditions for teachers to thrive, students to flourish, and public education to shine. Thank you for the countless ways you lift others up, the professionalism you model and the hope you embody for our schools and communities.
